I get that, but why could i not neck size it to .311? or .312?

BTW.......good luck trying to resize a 762x54R with a hand held press....unless you look like Brock Lesnar.
If you want to do a full length resize you will need a bench model press.
If you want a hand held tool then you are going to be neck sizing to .308

Oh FFS! Have you actually used a Lee Hand Press? Lube the case and FL size the dang thing. I have FL sized .30-06 brass with mine as well as .303Br. Can't prove it right now since I am in Tampa and not home. But when I get home in a month, I will definitely make a video. It's NOT THAT DIFFICUT! And I'm old, fat, and out of shape.

I just wanted to give you guys an update on the Lee hand press.

Rookie Wildcat was right, it is really not a big deal doing a few boxes of ammo using the hand press.
Gents who said it cant be done, did you actually try it?

My first ever reloads using lee hand press and RCBS dies.

Ain't they pretty !.

One thing to watch for with the Lee hand press. Make sure every case is properly lubed when FL sizing. The press has limited power available for pulling 'em back out of the die.

One time, loading up some .308's while outback in the bush, we forgot to bring along the case lube ... chainsaw bar oil was available though. ...

Oh-oh, this is not good.

Thank heavens the expander stem had been removed prior, or the whole works would have gone into the dumpster.
As it turned out, the 1/4" steel rod, it pretzled itself while pounding the stuck case out.

Been happily using a Lee Collet neck die, ever since.

I would imagine using your knees/thighs when using the hand press would be a big help keeping everything from falling all over?

have you tried to size a case without the expander rod?

I deprime my cases with a universal decapper, or Lee hand tool.

but due to the limited leverage on those tools, perhaps your dies size the necks just enough that you don't need to expand... just chamfer the inside neck, and seat a bullet?

just thinking out loud here, trying to make life easy

It is a good idea but i need the expander.
The RCBS die set comes with two expander one for .308 and one for .312 bullets.
Without the larger expander I would not be able to seat the .312 bullets.

But In reallity it is really not a big deal resizing a few boxes in one run.
It is really not that hard.

The only thing I will probably get is a hand priming tool.
It is doable with the Lee hand press but, not very convenient.

all my gear can fit in the trunk of my crown vic with room to spare; my presses are bolted to pieces of 2x6, also the powder measure stand and trimmer.

what's not mobile is the big surplus heavy desk I clamp these to when 'loading.

even one of those clamping collapsible work benches (work-mate?) can do the trick, as a work area.
