Help me on this 700 youth vs model seven

Hi everyone
Im looking for a lightweight/compact 7mm 08 for sub 200m hunting
I have for the same price a model seven or a youth 700
Which one is the best ? Which one did you take over the other ?
 
I would go with the Mod 7 as I think it is lighter of the two and I believe it was designed specifically as a compact lightweight rifle.
 
The stock is nicer on the Model 7. There are more ways to customize the 700. There are more scope mounting and aftermarket stock options for the 700. I've had both - they are both good.
 
I've always like the model 7...Handled a few in the gun stores etc. One thing you might like is that the loading port is actually longer on the model 7. The mag box is about 20thou longer than the 700 as well.

I was trying to make the same choice a few months back and ended up buying a Browning X bolt micro and I'm glad I did. The X bolt was $1000.00 but well worth it and you can add in the spacers that are included to increase LOP as needed.
 
I have both and love both. Also model 600 and 660. It all depends on what you want it for. I stand hunt or watch clear cuts usually with model 700s with 24" barrels. When I dog deer or still hunt I use model 7s or 600s. I use these because of a 20" barrel maximum. Shorter barrel equals less weight to hump through the bush. My go to rifle rain or shine is a model 7 with a 20" s/s barrel and action. This rifle was a 7mm-08 but was rechambered to a 284win. Just my 2 cents for what it's worth hope this helps.

Don't overlook Leupold's 2.5-8X36, it offers a bit more magnification than the 2-7X and isn't as bulky on a small rifle as a 3-9X. Another compact scope I like on small rifles is the 1.75-6X, one of which is mounted on my CZ 527 FS.

Z3 3-9x36 or Z3 3-10x42. I have owned both - and the Leupold 2.5-8x36 and other compact Leupolds. The Swarovski is a much nicer scope and the 3-10x42 with the BRH reticle is fantastic for longer shots. The 2.5-8x36 weighs just about the same as the Z3 3-9x36 and the larger Z3 is only a little bit heavier (11.4oz, 12oz and 12.7oz respectively). The Swarovskis can be had in the $800-$900 range. They are excellent scopes.
