Pulled this oldtimer from back of safe. Gun was built for my wifes grandfather in 50s by a smith Alton Gibson from Rupert Que 20 miles north of Ottawa.
He was a lumberman and hunter he shot over 30+ deer a year,in the 30's and sold them $15 to $25 it was allowed to sell deer in Quebec. he use to hunt with a Model 5 Ross then had this one made by Gibson. The last time I shot this gun 30 years ago,I was able to keep all 5 shots in the 2" white of a 6" black target using Winchester Super X 180gr spire points.

I was told its a Lee-Metford BSA ?
stock has vey fine checkering.
barrel is 22"
5 shot clip.
bore is spottless, rifling very sharp.
Serial # 2022x on action and two places on bolt all matching #

very nice sporter.

BSA Co marked comercial rifle, very good chance that that rifle was never in full wood. BSA made a line of sporter rifles built on the enfield receiver. I see you have on with the safety on the bolt.

The barrel looks like it got replaced with a newer enfield Barrel when it was customized.

good looking sporter

I had a Metford that had the military butt stock but had the front wood Bubba'd and the rest missing. Great deer gun for many years. gave it away to a new hunter that eyed it during a hunting trip. He still has it but has passed it onto his grandson. Hope the lad enjoys it as much as I have. I loved the bolt safty. Mine had a date and info stamped onto the wrist band but I have forgotten how it read.

You've got a BSA commerical action that was rebarrelled and stocked. The barrell is dated 1944. The action with that serial number is about 1920...should be an "S" after it. A very nice custom sporter worth in the $250.00 to $325.00 range.
