Help me out?! I need honest advice! The $1000 woes...

Hello, everybody! I have collected around $1000 for a new toy! I could save more, but this money is LITERALLY burning a hole in my wallet. It is calling out to me!..... I hear it.... *spend me.... SPEND ME!!!...* :D Okay, not so much, but It is about as much as I want to spend and I want a new toy for summer.

Anyway, I have been looking at the M305 shorty barrel rifles with black synthetic stocks. They shoooor are purdy..... :redface:

Definitely in my price range. However I have never fired one.

I am looking for something that is different from what I already own or something that can be made to look real cool with little money.

What I have so far is.... (I will copy and paste from my introduction thread.)

x2 - 1941 and 1943 SVT-40's.
x2 - SKS (Can't remember the years, but they are both laminate stocks.)
x1 - Remington 700 - .300 Win Mag with a 16x44 Vortex Viper Scope and bipod.
x1 - Remington 600 - .308 Win (With the vent rib before the Mohawk rifles.) with cheap Bushnell Scope.
x1 - Mossberg 590 Persuader 12Ga.
x1 - Sears? .410 Cal Shotgun.
x1 - Random extremely old double barrel 12Ga (Supposedly hand made, but.. I dunno...)
x2 - Random .22 Cal rifles that are older than old.
x2 - Pellet Rifles .177 (lol, I don't know what brand they are...)


I recently bought the .300 WM hoping stocks and goodies for it would be easy to obtain and such, however from the research I have done... this seems to not be the case. Also I have grown accustomed to how it looks and currently, I am content with it. :)

So with the $1000 I have, including cost of the rifle, can someone suggest/recommend what they would personally do to an M305?

But my ultimate goal is to stray from what I currently have. Are the M305's similar to the SVT or SKS? The last thing I want to do is buy the same thing.

If everybody thinks an M305 would not quench my insatiable thirst for sick looking firearms, could someone recommend what the $1000 could buy me?

I am liking the tactical look and don't own anything very tactical other than the Mossberg 590. I am hoping the M305 can be made tactical looking or something as such. I want to have variety, really... so I am open to suggestions.

I wanted the T-97, but Canada pooped on me. Then I wanted the Type-88 Sniper and my wallet pooped on me. Can someone show me a safe place clear of poop? The KSG and UTS-15 Shotguns make me smile. :)

OH and by the way. I'm one of those weird few who enjoy tonnes of recoil. I like owning toys nobody else wants to shoot when I go shooting and find pleasure in trying to accurately shoot a firearm that appears to be untamable. Everybody told me the .300 would beat me black and blue.... needless to say, I have quite the disappoint.... Recoil is similar to my .308. I crave more! However, if cool enough... recoil will not matter as much if at all.
 
shorty with USGI parts, socom 16 look using an inexpensive choate stock. Then hit hungry's clinic in july with the spare money you have leftover with some ammo.

As mentioned, I have considered going restricted, but I do not have my restricted license as I couldn't justify spending all that money on a license and gun and LITERALLY be completely restricted when wanting to have fun.

I am not close to ANY gun range. They should call it castrated, not restricted, it would make more sense in my case; however, I have tempted myself many times looking at pretty handguns and other short arms.

I am also more the kind of person that when me and my friends go to shoot guns, it turns into a bush adventure full of hiking and fishing and you name it, we do it. I prefer that over sitting at a range all day..... But, it is SO hard to not want all the cool toys!!!!!!!!!!
 
An M305 is pretty ###ay that is for sure. I was itching to go for one but I got into handguns and now I'm addicted.

...it doesn't have much recoil compared to a 308 but it's cool looking and fun to shoot. I'll probably never sell that one.

(oop... I don't have a canadian version like the link above. Just an arma-coated black folder with some tacticool stuff on it)
 
Just get the m305 and a ruger 10/22 when ammo gets expensive to shoot. It really depends on what you like to shoot and how much ammo you burn through. I go through boat loads of ammo so 308 adds up quickly it sure is fun though. With the AIA 10 round mags it makes it allot more fun.

I personaly don't see the point in buying doubles of firearms as well you cant shoot them both at the sametime. Also the other problem is when can you bring them all out to shoot them they start to sit in the safe ect.
 
Get an M305; decide on upgrades at that point [I went for a nice wood stock, a forward scope rail and few small internal bits. I may go for a Garand rear sight]. That will use up much or most of your $1000. Spend the rest on ammo.

I REALLY like the CZ858 with the folding stock, like Mr Freeze pointed out. I quite enjoy the pistol grip. I actually really want that rifle. So that one is a possibility if I don't go with an M305.

As haha49 stated, buying doubles is poopy. I only own doubles of the SKS and SVT so one of each can be forever bolted to my wall and two I can ruin. I like choice when I go shooting and like I said before, when I go shooting, it becomes an adventure with more than a few people. All my firearms gets used quite often. None of my ladies are safe queens. :)

I am liking the archangel stock for the M305. :)

but... the CZ858....... uh..... oooooo.... ahhhhhhhh....... WANT!

I don't know. I wish it was more of a "YES, THAT is the gun for me." type of decision. That would be a for sure sign that I wouldn't regret spending my money I have saved. $1000 buys a lot of ammo and accessories.... I would be lying if I said I have not been exploring my options.... I just don't know what to do!
 
I'd go with the CZ first for a fun "CQB" style tacticool rifle, then get the M14 second and pimp it out with an Archangel stock, bipod and nice glass....:sniper:

THIS. For $1000 you could buy a decent used ruger mk II/III/2245 AND a decent used 357 revolver.

Either that, or (i'm surprised someone else hasn't said it) invest in a good reloading set up. A single stage kit from just abotu any maker would suit your needs. If you get a lyman or rcbs kit you won't need to upgrade your scale and powder measure. 200 bucks for 4 sets of dies, a case trimmer, and you're now seeing some returns on that money spent every time you shoot. Then, you'll already have all the stuff to reload for the m14 when you do finally get one :)
 
I've got an M-14, have not regretted it one bit! You can dress it up at least 31 different flavors too, here, flip through every page of this thread and if you aren't inspired, then you must be half-way in the grave!!!!:

I also really like the CZ858, but honestly, if you are in the market for only one, go Norc/Poly M-14 and enjoy!
 
I have a cx 858 for me it got boring and cleaning it because of crossive ammo was a pain in the rear. Its a neat gun but shooting it with the folding stock kind of sucks the fixed stock is allot nicer to shoot with. Just feels better. Its like a better version of a sks so if you like that its not a bad choice. I like the m305 allot better since it has aia mags and 10 rounds with the cz you need to have a magazine adapter gunsmithed in and then it's also 10 rounds. The sks is stuck at 5 which kind of sucks but depends on what you want

You could always get a m1 granad that is more fun to shoot them the m305 I find. I have one in 308 so you can get them in that caliber if you want
 
Non-restricted, go for the CZ858 with the 19" bbl in 7.62x39

The ammo it fires (surplus anyway) is a LOT cheaper than the ammo a M305 takes, so you shoot more for the same money.

BTW, I have both the CZ858 and a Norc M305. Both are reliable easy-to-shoot rifles, but I shoot the CZ more just because the ammo is cheaper.
