Hey,
Just got opportunity to get a nice new handgun but i'm now facing a hard decision: which one to get??? I have two stores nearby offering me these :

Sig Mosquito .22lr : 579.99
Chrome Taurus "Beretta 92" 9mm : 949.99
Beretta Neos .22lr 4 1/2" : 399.99
Beretta Neos .22lr 6" : 399.99
Ruger SingleSix .22lr/.22mag : 659.99
Ruger Mark III .22lr : 539.99

Now I know these prices are prohibitives but these are quite the only options I have at hand now ( shipping to my region can take easely 6-8weeks and I can't wait !!!) So what would you choose and why?? I really like the Taurus but I didn't find much info on those and can't justify 1grand for a gun that may or may not be reliable. Help me out people!!! Must have one as soon as possible!!:D

P.S. This is my frist handgun;)

My personal choice would be the Ruger, mostly as there are lots of 3rd party upgrades available for it.

I would suggest handling them all and see what feels good to you, if you can get an opportunity to shoot each one that should also help you to make a decision.

My first gun was a Ruger Mark II and it was a nice gun to start out with but then I got the IPSC bug and had to pick up a 1911. the .22 was great to start with and to learn from but it became boring after the 1911 :)

The list is full of quality firearms.

The Beretta Neos in either incarnation is said to be an excellent beginner's pistol. Both are reputed to be very reliable, fully ambidextrous and relatively easy to field strip for cleaning. You can also get a wide variety of accessories for them.

The Sig Mosquito is reported to be a good pistol as well, but it is Sigs first time in the .22lr ring.

Ruger MkIII .22lr is the modernized version of a venerable and very good pistol. It is quite reliable and a proven firearm. However it is a bit more effort to put some accessories on it than some of the other choices.

The Ruger Single Six is a Ruger revolver, based upon top quality and engineering. 'Nuff said.

If you are looking at a Taurus for that price, you can look at a genuine Beretta 92FS for that price.

Personally, I would recommend the Beretta NEOS.

Ruger III. The rest are just plinkers. Although for that price I would try to find a good used Hi Standard model Citation.

Of that list I'd go for the Ruger as well...have you though about checking the EE? You can save a bunch of cash (plus the tax) and shipping via Xpresspost should be only maybe a week or so, depending on where you are. I just completed a buy and a sale...both were about 10 days from completing the deal to receipt of the pistol.

I would also recommend the Ruger semi-auto. I have had my Mark II for for 15years and its been 100% reliable and fun to shoot.

Heeuuu...

Are these shops located in the Bas Saint-Laurent region ? You have listed the guns located in the 2 shops in our region. Am I close ?

I would get a PT92, it's a best gun on the list; plus it's a 9mm not a .22 :) Oh you don't have to worry about reliability - it's a 92 ;)

but it's a LOT of money for that gun; you can get a Beretta 92 (black) for $850, if you want stainless/chrome I'd say get the Taurus (Inox models are not back yet in Canada)

if you want a .22 get a Neos

where to get a genguine(sp?) 92 for 850???

From what I've heard, getting parts for Taurus pistols can be a nightmare, as they are not interchangeable with the real thing.

Why does everyone say this about Ruger products?
Why can't they just build it right the first time? :D

Wolverine supplies used to sell Berettas for $850 not sure if the price is still the same... FYI there are a couple of Taurus 92's in the exchange forum for fairly cheap!

The 92 or Ruger MK III.

edit: hold on, I didn't see the Taurus part. Avoid it like the plague... get the MK III.

For a first pistol, you can't go wrong with a good .22LR. Either Ruger is a good choice. However, some of those prices are high. I'd do a little comparison shopping if I were you, or check out the Exchange Forums for better deals.
