Help me pick a barrel length for my upcoming AR

11.5" I got that length, it's great.
It'll be more accurate out to 200 for sure. It's quite effective, and pretty much shoots like a laser out to 100.

You'll be able to find 11.5" barrels for cheaper, and it SHOULD run smoother, cleaner, and more reliably then a 7.5".

7.5" just strikes me as a bit of a novelty, but I'm looking to try it out myself.
IF your "Firearms I own" list is complete and you indeed do not own another 223 AR, I would recommend 11.5" as a good starting point.

Either way, get yourself a beefy buffer.

11.5 is what I'm leaning towards as well... But I do really like the look of a 7.5 short AR. My firearms I own is up to date except the m&p .22lr pistol I got comin (stupid BC CFO) until its in my hands it's not on the list, lol. This is just for future reference... Ima get a hera arms lower shipped in from Europe pretty quick here for a good price considering the U.S pree AWB prices on AR uppers and lowers. Might just get the upper while at at it... Decisions, decisions.

11.5" is less obnoxious to those around you, and because of the longer sight radius, would be more accurate, at longer ranges, using irons.
With an optic, or red dot, I don't think it'll make any significant difference.
As noted, these aren't significant considering what it's going to be used for, so get what works for you.
I still strongly suggest that, with either one, fit a muzzle device that tends to direct the blast downrange....i.e. Noveske 'flaming pig' or similar.

How about something in between? I'm going to have Alberta Tactical Rifle make me a 8.5" barrel for my AR hopefully next month. It's longer than the 7.5 and will fit better with most hand guards.

My vote is for 11.5 great to run CQB courses but still can reach out there, I love mine! Plus looks bad a** with a 11 or 12 ( with say ATRS eliminator) free float handguard.

I vote for 14.5. Short is great but I find my 10.5 is Awesome for 3 gun but is lacking when I am shooting longer ranges. For general range duty I go to my 16 inch. If I had just one I think 14.5 would be it.

Having owned 7.5", 11.5", 20" and a 14.5"... I can honestly say the 14.5 is without a doubt the most handy for me. The shorter ones were LOUDer and you have to pay more attention to support hand placement...

Freedom Ventures sells Hera uppers and lowers. they're a sponsor at the top left of your page, and the prices seem very reasonable.
