Help me pick a cartridge

Another 6mmBR fan. Do it and don't look back. I only have 1000 rounds in mine but I haven't even started to chase the lands yet. It still grabs the lands at the same point it did when I first started shooting it. I expect that I will get to 3000 at least and then I will get it set back and rechambered and crowned and see how many more I can get through it.
I know those that have over 3000 through their 6mmBR and haven't done anything other than chase the lands and still shoot tiny groups.

Unless you want it to be mag fed, then look at the 6.5x47.
 
At 500 yards you will have just under 1000 ft pounds of energy, which is enough for antelope or even deer. Its all about shot placement.
My all time favorite hunting bullet in 6mm is 85g SGK, but the BC is lacking. The berger 105g VLD hunting bullets have the highest BC. I have never tried one on deer but berger has videos showing the damage they do and it looks impressive.
Cold bore shot will be tricky especially if there is wind. Long range hunting is a touchy subject around here.
Farthest kill I have done on an animal was a 600 yard coyote. Personally if I get a bad hit on a coyote I won't feel too bad.
I have passed up long shots on deer just cause I didn't feel confident enough and the conditions just weren't to my liking.
 
I've tried the 6mmBR repeater thing...it was ok, but not reliable. I was using AI mags on a Remmy 700 action in a McMilly A5.

90% of the time it was fine, the other 10% was disaster.

Then a 6.5x47 it will be,thank you to all that responded to this thread.

Now I just have to talk to some gun builders and decide who I am going to have build the rifle.I have sent out e-mails asking for quotes,but so far response has been slow.

There is a huge selection of bullets that are cheaper than 6.5mm bullets. It has very little recoil. Enough said! In addition, it has more than enough energy for hunting deer-sized game at respectable distances.
 
I actually found a new unfired gun that is already assembled.It is the RPA Quadlite repeater,with RPA trigger and safety,rail on the action,V-Bull bottom metal,ten shot mag,Robertson Composites tactical style stock with adjustable cheek piece and length of pull,RKS 26" barrel in 6.5x47L,a second McPhee barrel in 308win.The gun was assembled by Paul Reibin of Rangesports.The owner was asking $3500 for all,which I thought was very reasonable.
