Howdy Folks.

Technically first post here. RPAL for 2 months, many non restricted in my cabinet. I've got a bolt covered, GSG-15 lives in there, and a Scorpion Evo NR on Pre-order. I'd like to get into my first handgun purchase. I'm a smaller shooter, with smaller hands. I've joined a range, and done my first Handgun ATT probationary shoot, 3 more to go.

I've been eyeballing a Girsan Regard 4.9" Stainless w/ Rail and have just come across a CZ 75 Sp-01 Phantom.

My first probationary shoot was with the officer's 92FS. I really REALLY liked it, but it's out of my price range until I get more proficient, and find out if I really enjoy firing hand guns.

So the Girsan is a good gun by a cheaper manufacturer, and the CZ is a cheaper gun by a good manufacturer.

I like the idea of customizing grips and/accessories etc, but not a necessity at this point, just want to find something comfortable for my first handgun that won't break my bank.

I've read somewhere about the girsan not having a protection against the slide firing back at you if there's a failure in there, slide block or something to that effect? Anybody know any more info on that?

Girsan can be had around 669 in stainless, and the CZ is hanging around 599 or so at tenda (have had bad experience w Tenda already, that's another post, LOL)

Many thanks for any input/advice. I'm more of a reddit guy at heart, but this site has a LOT of awesome info for sure. Thanks all!

Get the gun you want. Save up a little longer, dig through the couch cushions. Better to overspend once and have it, If you settle you will spend more to upgrade later anyway. Of course you will like shooting handguns.

I can't weigh in on the CZ, other than to say it's a CZ so I have no doubt it is a fine pistol. I have owned a Girsan and to be honest I was blown away by how nice it was, I have shot 92's and the Girsan felt no different to me and just as accurate. They are also a fairly easy sell if and when you want the real deal Beretta
Oh yeah, buy it used off the EE here and save yourself some money, there is really no need to buy brand new unless you absolutely have to have brand new,,that's cool also :)

Thanks @Proceed. I definitely enjoyed my first probationary shoot last week. I'm 36, but 20+ of those years have been in front of a computer so the ol carpel tunnel/RSI definitely shows its ugly face on the cold days, I wasn't sure if I could hold on to one. WORTH the claw grip in my initial go. Still a little apprehensive about learning the range rules while also learning to be proficient enough in a handgun to get sign offs, but I'm looking forward to giving it another whirl next week.

Being new to the sport and topic, I'm also terrified that my ability to purchase a handgun for sport/target shooting is time limited right now, but I'm also not a rich man LOL.

I was in my local shop today and they did have a 92FS under the glass. Working my way towards EE to see if I can find something reasonable in the used category, but also feel like new would feel better unless I knew the owner.

I'm kind of the brand new guy, but still fresh to CGN, so waiting to gain access to EE. I've been on ####### for local sales etc. Would definitely prefer to see condition in person if I can vs having something shipped.

No need to buy from someone you know for used, check feedback score on EE sellers and you are pretty safe, I have bought many used guns here, most are better than described by high feedback sellers,, good luck in your search!

Had both. The Girsan Regard was nice enough, but the CZ 75 SP-01 Phantom is at a whole different level of accuracy. I have trimmed down my hand gun collection over the last year, so the CZ stayed, the Girsan is gone.

I've watched some videos and read some pretty good reviews for the Phantom as well. At a cheaper pricepoint too, and the fact that it has a decocking level (preference for sure) I'm definitely leaning that way.

Are you able to change/replace sights on the Phantom??

Own a Girsan Regard, have fired a CZ a few times. The CZ and Girsan both are quite accurate (at least, in my experience) I'm a lefty, so opted to go with the Girsan (plus, got a really good deal on it). Bear in mind that the Beretta 92 pattern pistols are quite large, and have a fairly thick grip which may be an issue for smaller hands.

I have a CZ 75 Shadow SP01, like $800 new. This is a great gun. I really like mine, one of my favorites. No clue about the other gun mentioned. I think you would like the Beretta 92 as well. I have one but I have not taken it to the range, cold and lots of snow. Heavy steel guns with longer bbls. are the way to go.

Cz all yhe way love mine

Both are great guns. Get the one that feels better in your hand. I own and shoot 3 gun with a Girsan Regard. It is a very well made pistol. The only noticeable difference from a real 92F is the finger groove grip. The quality is just as good as Beretta. And the slide flying back thing is one of those things that happened a couple times on a 92F with high pressure ammo and gets blown out
of proportion. It's a duty pistol, so is the CZ-75. They are both more than tough enough for any of our uses.
