Help me pick a goose gun!!!

If you had a few more $$ you could look for a Benelli. My dad got a sx3 in 3.5 inch and it the biggest lemon I ever saw from shooting some cheap 2 3/4 or 3.5 and it would jam and many other issue .

I am a Brownchester fan myself.... I picked up a Maxus and had a hard time getting it to fit me right but I think that was just bad luck as the last shim I tried ended up being the right one..... I think that with all of the shims available it could likely fit anyone except for maybe a giraffe or a rock 'em sock 'em robot..

UPDATE: After a long talk with my wife, I'm going a different direction. My wife actually told me to save more and get a gun that I could hand down to my son. So new budget is 2000, taxes in absolute max! I am still waiting on a trip to shooters choice to see what fits me best but I am very excited, and love my wife very much lol. I was peeking at the new a5, hoping some sort of massive sale would put more options in my sub 2k range.

Dont let the budget dictate the purchase. A $2000 gun that doesnt fit you is worth less then a $1000 gun that fits properly. Sure the added budget opens doors to new possibilities, but there is still a good chance that the best option wont reach the new budget ceiling. Lots of great options in the used market well within the original amount....of course when you figure out what gun fits you best.

Seems like some put more thought into buying a gun then others do into buying a house.

Anybody have a versa max? Are they reliable? I know I should wait and see what fits me but almost all higher end guns come with shims and risers to tailor to each person.

Benelli M2 for a super simple, reliable workhorse shotgun that cycles everything from lightest 1oz target loads to heavy 3in mags. Focus less on the cost and shoulder them all,

Patrick

Winchester 1100, Browning Maxus, Franchi affiniti/intensity, Benelli Super Black Eagle, Browning A5 (not your grandpas A5), Winchester SX3/4, A300. Or whatever fits you the best. I'll go out on a limb and say the quality of most of the big names is pretty similar, although everyone has a preference, and an experience that has led them to prefer one brand over another. Find something that you like.
Pump Actions are a good option, not finicky on load weights, temperature, too much / too little oil, dirt, or salt. Rarely to they not cycle..
3 1/2" is also a nice option, even if you are not planning on shooting 3 1/2" shells, it allows you the option to cycle any 12ga ammunition that is available in the field. Who else has not brought enough ammo and borrowed from a friend in the blind? What if they only shoot 3 1/2", and you only have a 3" chamber? Done for the day. Bad deal if you are out for a snow goose hunt.

Handled the versa max the sx3 a v3 and a browning gold and so far versa max fits perfectly and pulls up perfectly every time. Gonna try a few more when I make it down to shooters choice!!

I picked up a versa max last fall. So far really like it. Fit me like a Remington, which has always been a good thing for me. Cycles well and recoils like a nerf gun. Silly how much recoil that gun soaks up.

I was wanting to try the v3 but couldn't find one and got tired of waiting when cabelas had the full on versa max on for less than the sportsman version so I had to pull the trigger so to speak.

Hoss 83- I have been eyeing up an m2, but haven't had the chance to handle one yet. Also looked at the vinci. I would like to look into all the different warranties that are offered from benelli, Remington etc. I'm pretty sure browning doesnt come with a warranty, and I also heard barretta has a 10 year. Don't know for sure but I'm going g to look I to it. Also I will be making my decision on father's day, hoping a good sale can help me out.

Rammakos in Sudbury has a browning gold -10 ...10 guage for sale 3.1/2 " all camo used
Browning the best there is
Buddy has one I know ...I go hunting with him and at like 70 ...75 meters is no problem to kill geese
I'd shoot get one or two.... we would empty our guns and he would reload and still whack them out of the air!!!s.o.b!!!!

Buy the best quality, best fitting gun that your budget allows. Go over your budget if you have to for the right gun (although for $2000 I don't see that happening)... in my opinion based on previous experience, and especially after seeing you write that you are on your 3rd shotgun in 3 years, the motto: buy once, cry once comes to mind.

Anybody here own a benelli m2? Or vinci? How reliable are they? Any bad experiences? Any fantastic experiences?

I've owned multiple M2's, currently a black synthetic 12ga and it's never failed. They are honestly about as reliable a semi auto as you're ever to find, there is just so little that could make them fail. They are clean running, simple to maintain and above all else they shoulder and feel lively in your hands, like a fine double. The balance is much much better than most gas guns even though I know that a gas gun is softer shooting. I use mine at the skeet/trap field with 1oz loads and have had zero malfunctions.

I got the Vinci and only ever had one malfunction. And it because I shot all summer with it in the sand pit and it was starting to be quite dirty . Otherwise is a very light and we'll balance gun very compact once in part

Wixx.... I own a super Vinci a 20 ga m2 and a 12 ga fully rifled m2. Also 2 Benelli rifles. I'm very picky about my firearms and over the years found it very hard to stray from my Benellis. I also have an A400. All have been superb over the years and always go boom when I need them to. I do clean my guns after every hunt or shoot. Never any issues. Sorry for the delayed response.
