Ok I want a .300Win Mag. That is pretty much certain.
This gun will be for moose (short range) and deer (long range).
I also want to start shooting at the 1000yd range to see if its worth me buying a dedicated LR target gun.

What kind of gun is going to give me tack driver qualities (at least under 1 moa) and still be able to carry it in a boat or the bush.

Kimber? CZ?

Hit me with your ideas.

I think you're asking a little too much form one rifle, but I don't know for sure. Typically your long range tack drivers weigh a little more than you want to carry around all day. I have an Eclipse M1000 Browning that drives tacks at any range -- target weight barrel, heavy laminated stock -- 11 pounds all in. I carry it, but it tires ya something fierce. It's a real shooter, though. My favourite loads are with a TSX 168 grain with RL22 and a 180 Partition with H4831sc.

Not suggesting a Browning for you -- usually take way too much heat when we do that. :D How about a Sendero with a fluted barrel?

Sako, Tikka, Remington, ruger.

I own a Kimber and it's very light, reasonably accurate, but in 300 winny they arent light, they are a standard weight gun. I wouldn't pay what I did for a gun that is sort of nice if it didn't weigh 5 1/2 lbs. The Cz's I/ve handled were kind of rough, I hear good things but htey need work. It sounds like you want a nice rifle, get a Sako, do nothing to it, shoot little groups and go hunting.

There are a lot of good hunting rifles in that calibre. Like martinsbns said above, and I'd also consider a Savage with accutrigger and a laminate stock. I have a Savage 300 Winmag rifle, and they are good guns, esp for the money. I put in a Sharp Shooter supply trigger, and plan to replace the plastic stock with a laminate, so that's why I say avoid the standard trigger and plastic stock.

Do you have a link to that 300 WM in the EE. I can't see it.

I realize my criteria is tough. I just want something accurate enough to get me to at least 600yds, doesn't have to be an Fclass gun, just needs to make it there and hit something. If I like long range target shooting I might by something else more specific.

The Sendero is one i've been thinking about also. I'm going to have to fondle one at the local Wholesale.:D And for just a little more money I could get a nice Sako 75.

The Sendero is a nice shooting gun, but I think you should plan to buy two guns, one specific to each purpose, as I can't see carrying a heavy gun in the field. You'll do yourself a favor if you buy one better suited for hunting and another later for long range target shooting. You can buy the lighter hunting rifle first, and with a decent gun and scope you can have some getting your feet wet at long range target shooting, without getting into a full target stock and barrel.

Look at the remington sendero II HS precision stock; free floated: fluted barrel; and comes with remingtons new trigger. Pretty nice set up with a good scope. They don't call this rifle a bean field rifle for nothing.

Sako 75 300WM

My good hunting buddy and I both have Sako m75SS 300WM. Great rifles. Leupold Vari-X III scopes (3.5-10x40 we bought the rifles in 1998 therefore the Vari-X III scopes)

Reloads in mine are 7x.0gr RL22 with 180gr Accubonds giving me 0.604" 5shot groups @ 100 metres (3 shot group of 0.247"), sighted in @ 3.5" high giving me dead on zero @ 300 metres. Just developing the reloads in my buddy's rifle but his is very close to mine.

Go with a Sako m75, either a SS or the Greywolf model.

That is a heck of a deal on the Remington! I would jump on it but I'm not sure If I like the stock color.

Sako 75 Greywolf is definatly a sweet looking rifle. Will have to see if I can afford a Sako.......maybe a Tikka with Laminate Stainless?

If you want to move up in acartridge just a little.....

I have a 700 LSS (stainless/grey laminate) in 300 ultramag I'm thinking of trading/selling (if I can find one of them little rugers in a 300 or 350)

Can't say Ive stretched it's legs to 600, but I can go 5/5 shots on a washer fluid jug at 511 yards (laser'd) with a 200 gr. partition. :D

Tikka T3 LS model

I have 2 Tikka T3 in the LS models - both in 270WSM. LOVE THEM. I waited the extra year for the Laminate model. But I will say that is Sako had the m75 Greywolf out at that time, I would of bought it. The Tikkas are great value for the $$.

You can save the $$ on the Tikka T3 LS rifle and put savings towards a good scope - Leupold VX3 with the BC reticle or a VX2 with the LR duplex.;):D

My $299 Stevens 200 in 300 Win Mag shoots under an inch at 100 yds and right around seven inch groups at the Ram rail on our silhouette course.

That's 500 meters, 545 yards! Is that good enough? :D

Right out of the box, just adjust the trigger to three pounds and go!

Ted
