Okay so I have a sweet new 10/22 Target Tactical sitting here, but i'm at a loss for what to run for a scope. I'll give you my requirements and tell me what you think I should pick up.

1)Around $250 Shipped or less.
2)Longish eye relief, thinking like 4", seems to be more comfortable for me.
3)Good to shoot from 25-100 yards, with the odd lob shot past that for a laugh.
4)Must be long, or come with a sunshade, I like the hubble telescope look on my rimfires.
5)Magnification, i'm open minded, I was thinking a fixed 10, but up for anything as long as its higher that 3-9, NO 3-9 scopes.
6)Tall "Tactical" turrests, want to make adjustments without screwing caps off.

Thats about it.

What do you think?

I'll check it out, who sells Meuller?

I knew that was the next question and for the life of me I can't remember!
IIRC it was Wilderness something or other....a Canadian dealer located in your neck of the woods.

Nevermind...found it Whitefalls.ca

White falls hunting supplies in Manitoba is the only listed dealer in canada on Meullers website. Looks like he is priced about $100 per scope high, guess you can do that when your the only guy in canada, I'm sure someone else must sell them....

$235 is not out of line vs the US prices. Yes a little more but for the money it comes with a lot of features you're looking for and from a Canadian dist who can take care of warranty issues.
The guys over at RimfireCentral love the Mueller scopes for their rimfires.
I'm sure others will be posting their suggestions soon enough. Good luck...

I'm going to get razzed for saying it but I like the tasco 6-24x and also have the 10-40x. Both you can buy with or without sun shades.
Also they are cheaper than most scopes.

No Tasco please. i had an Nc Star scope once and well, let just say I don't mind spending a few bucks on a good one. No leupolds in my house but not a fan of those tasco things.

I agree about the Meuller, when I was looking for a scope for my 17HMR it led me to the same place. Anyone deal with that guy before?

I think maybe you will need to up your dollar some. Unless you want to get into the cheaper chinese ebay stuff, I think you will have to spend more than $250.00 Shipped. $350.00 would be a better starting point, I found this on Frontiers Site.

May not be the best brand name around, but it is only going on a rimfire and not to the sandbox.

I googled it .. there are some reviews on the makes. More yays then nays. If you do buy one, get the one above. The triple duty ones seem to be better then their standard line of scopes.

Got this from the optics forum

I came across this on the SWFA forum.

http://www.opticstalk.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=8185

The scale below was formed by SWFA sales staff, customer service, pro-staff and owners using personal experience, customer input and facts supplied by the manufacturers. The ranking system is based on the following criteria.

51% Optical Quality - How bright and clear the scope is.
15% Specifications - Field of view, eye relief, weight, adjustment travel, etc.
15% Durability - How do they with stand the test of time.
12% Special Features & Options - Proprietary items (reticles, design, turrets), Zoom ratio.
7% Warranty & Customer Service - How good are they.
0% (Value - Bang for your buck.) This criteria has been removed due to O.T. member input.

In order to maintain the scale's simplicity we are not listing every single manufacture and only major manufactures will have several of their brands listed. This scale also does not have discontinued brands or products like the old U.S.A. made Redfields, Japan Tasco or Japan Simmons Aetec. This scale is heavily weighted toward HUNTING as being the application the scope will be used for.

This scale will be kept current with changes that the manufacturers are making that affect their rank. Many of the lower end companies have been bought and sold a lot recently and while the names have stayed the same......the product has not.

I might shy away from that, saw some reviews I was not to keen on.

I really think I might end up with the Bushnell tactical fixed 10x, seems like a solid scope and pretty much fits my needs.

Maybe there one out there I haven't saw yet?

yup, there was a few that screamed NO to me as well .. lol. I'd still have to suggest broadening your price range a bit, after all ... you get what you pay for.

:D

Depends on your anticipated targets, but 10x is a bit much at 25 yds and not enough for 100 yds (at least if you want to see the bullet holes.)

A 6-24x might be more useful. One that fits all your specs, except for the target turrets, is the Bushnell 4200 Elite. Very good scope. One thing I particularly like about them is the long scope body gives you a lot of mounting room, making the eye relief issue easy to solve. They are over your budget, but frequently show up used on the EE for around $400.

I agree with JimV...a fixed 10x will be out of focus at 25yrds without AO.
I had a center fire with the Bushnell Tactical 10x fixed that you are considering. I would not use it for anything less than 80yrds due to the focus issue and parallax.
At 100yrds I could see holes punched by .223 on C-More targets.
Mueller APT 4.5-14x40 AO@ $235CDN is the way to go........meets all your requirements.

I would recommend a Hawke Varmint... you can choose which zoom range... the 2.5-10X44mm, 3-1244mm, 4-16X44mm models have the same length and weight specs... the 6-24X44mm model is a little longer and heavier... I have two of the 4-16X44mm and they are a really nice scope... the 1/2 Mil-Dot fine reticle is the best I have ever used for rimfire scopes. They also have side focus.

Might I suggest a few options,

How about a Bushnell Trophy XLT 4-12x40 with the DOA 600 ballistic drop reticle (P&D has then for $211)

Or the Nikon Prostaff II 4-12x40 with ballistic drop reticle, (P&D has them for $227, and the glass is crisp and clear)

Both should serve quite well, and the BDC should allow you to presight for specific ranges.
