Help me pick a scope

Starting the search for a scope to put on a win m70 300wsm.
Looking in the $600-$750 ish range.
Have had a couple nightmare experiences with the Bushnell Elite series of junk so they are off the table.
Just to many dang options these days and all have positive and negative reviews from what I have seen.
Durability is my primary goal,all other positive attributes are good of course but I will give up a small % of clarity for a competing scope that can take twice the butt kicking and keep on ticking.
So what say you?

Well....may I kindly suggest you save for another month or two? and spend in the $13-1500 arena,,,
What effective range do you intend to hunt at?
Uncertain the quality of your rifle, however once you invest in a top grade glass it will reward you on most any game rifle.
I've shot Weaver, Leupolds, Zeiss, S&B....and without hesitation - go with a Meostar.....

I currently limit my hunting range to 400 yards.
But I do live near a long range shooting range so hope to spend some time there and do some actual long range shooting but it is primarily a hunting rifle.
I may just save up longer but that's a major chunk of change for a average working man,but if it lasts a lifetime money well spent.

Great!
A chunk of change is a little irrelevant when that game animal of a lifetime walks out at 350+ yards...
And if you feel that your rifle is a lifer then ensure your glass is as well...
and practice, practice, practice, choose a specific ammo brand, weight and bullet.
And once dialed in...always trust your gun/sight - especially when the adrenaline grabs you while watching fur through your scope...!!!!
 
IMO you do not need to spend $1500 for a hunting scope.
If you want a LR scope, fair enough.
Personally I can think of multiple scopes that are in your budget as far as hunting scopes go.
 
By all means what do you have experience with and recommend?
I need something that can hunt long and hard and take some bumps and bruises without worrying about it.
Was kinda leaning towards leapold vx3i series initially but have read many mixed reviews.
Meopro seems to be more positive then negative as well from what I have read.
Someone/a gun magazine should do a long term torture test on these things.
 
I personaly own a vx3 2.5x8 and i love it! I have it mounted on a tikka 300 wsm. Never even tought of changing it been using it fir close to 8 years now. For the range pass 200 yards u wont see your bullets holes but for hunting is great.
 
I too am a fan of Leupold glass. I've had a Vari-X III 2.5-10 X 40 on my Ruger M77 and she's been hunted hard for over 24 years with no problems whatsoever. I'm also very taken with Redfield scopes since I first got one, and both have a lifetime warranty. You can get good lightly used glass for a very reasonable price on the EE. Good luck to you whichever route you choose to go.
 
I am a big fan of Leupold glass. Excellent scope for your money and great warranty. Vari x 3 in a 40mm objective. It's never let me down and been through a lot. There's so many choices out there. Good luck.
 
I also am a Leupold fan. I bought steel Weavers in the early 70's. When they got to the end of their practical service lives I retired them and switched to Leupold VX III in 3.5 x10. I have 3 of them all fitted with the Leupold flip up aluminum lens covers. Also have 1 Leupold VX III 1.5 x 5. Since Leupold resurrected Redfield from the dead I bought one of there 4.5 x 12 for my .243. That scope has seem some harsh conditions with huge temp changes and has done itself proud, no issues.

I would think about the distances you may encounter and if your going to be hunting until the last second of day light. As quality of glass and the coatings applied all aid in light transmission. The better the glass and coating applied the more dollars. The Leupolds, and the Redfield have been doing it all for me. And if you shop around they are in your price range.
 
Leupold VX3i, or old stock in a VX3. 3.5-10 x 40. I like the B&C reticle but if you're only shooting 400 yards the Duplex will do. Done and done.


I hear you on the Elite junk; those are the scopes they hand out in Hell.
 
I have a few Leopold VX-R's and they have been awesome, no problems at all. They are pretty close in price to your budget. I have scopes that cost way more and the VX-R's glass is pretty good especially for the money.
 
Explore your options with vortex. My friends and I have been happy with a variety of their stuff.... Leupold has always been the benchmark but it’s a higher price point.
