Hey I need help picking the right semi auto 22lr rifle. I need a rifle that is:

-Solid and reliable, being dependable even if reasonably unclean.
-High capacity magazines are a must, not leaving drum mags which I would like to have. However, reliable 30 rounders are a MUST. Something like magazine jams scare me from some 22s.
-Relatively accurate; I realize no firearm is perfect so i wouldn't mind it being average accuracy as long as everything else is right.
-Reasonable price; the lower the better, obviously! :)

EDIT: Considering a 10/22, which model would be best suited for my needs (costs down) ?

Many thanks in advance,

I have a Ruger 10/22 with a GSG 110-round drum, all in a Nomad stock, and I love it.

But a more affordable option may be a Norinco JW-14, provided you can find the 25-round banana mags for it - I have two Champion mags that work great!

The former is a more "tactical" looking 22, (copying a G36), whilst the latter is a rough copy of the wooden "Garand"-style. Both are fun to shoot.

I sold my Savage 64F over the weekend, (a) 10 round mags suck, (b) since getting my Ruger Takedown 22, the Savage was never used.

I really like my Ruger Takedown and the Butler Creek mags are good enough. I want a 110 round drum too :D. misfires, jams & stove pipes happen from time to time, but that is going to happen on any gun. the ammo is to blame, not the weapon.

yes ruger SR-22 not the regular 10/22 very reliable very durable great price. I have had mine for 3 months and love it. i have the buttler creek 25 round megs and found the hot lips better the steel lips for feeding. Also it is in my opinion the most custommisable gun on the market. Don't think about it just go get it you will be very happy. Also found the 38 grain federals to shoot the best

I mean so far hes my list in order of most to least likely:

1. 10/22 - pricey but has good mags and decent everything else
2. 597 - it seems like my dream except for what I hear to be terrible mags and limited after market mags (talking hi cap, i know the 10 rounders are half decent) , for 199.99 at cabelas I almost cant resist
3. Pietta PPS-50 - Seems like a solid rifle, good mags nice look good quality..but not many out there so I'm kind of nervous..

What do you guys think of the pietta pps-50 from marstar?

I love my PPS-50 - it is a very compact rifle, quite short, but the wood is beautiful on mine. Solid and heavy...big difference from my Norincos. I have the stick mag, and I have run everything through it from Blazers down to Remington subsonics without a single misfire or FTE! Only my JW-14 eats more...it will cycle CCI Quiets with the Champion mag about 8/10 times...the bolt being so light I guess...

I have not heard great reviews of the 50-round drum for it, although I am currently looking for one. I wanted to make sure I had the stick as well.

I am not as big a fan of the "tactical" version (?) with adjustable stock (it's already very compact), I handled one at a show and I prefer the wood. Obviously, it's meant to resemble the Finnish sub-machine gun, PPM or whatever it was...although THAT version, for roughly the same price, comes with the drum mag...which are a bit expensive separately, IMO @$100 plus shipping.

I put a 11mm to 20 mm "see through" converter on it, and can mount different optics, while co-witnessing the irons. It's a really fun little 22. Not sure how accurate it is yet...just got it last month, and haven't been to the 100 yard range yet, just the 20, where I spent more time shooting from the hip with a laser than checking for overall accuracy. Yeah, it's that kind of rifle, lol...

Biggest drawback is price, I think I paid about $450 from my LGS...

Probably, if you like the idea of one day tinkering with it and switching it to a different stock, like the ATI folders (very cool), or the Archangel 556 (modelled after an AR in appearance) or Nomad (looks like a G36)...or even the"Tommy Gun" stock, lol...the 10/22 is the way to go, as others have said. Or even if you just want to leave it as is and have a reliable, accurate semi-auto 22, get the Ruger. They were hard to find a short while ago, the introduction of all the cool after-market stocks meant they were being scooped up...and Ruger admits it is still hundreds of thousands of rifles behind schedule! There were lots of the take-downs and the funky purple stocked ones...but just basic model 10/22s, the kind that are best for swapping the stock, were as rare as hen's teeth! But I am seeing them more now. Although still more of the "odd" ones, that the normal ones...

It is reliable, has good re-sale value, and has, by far, the widest variety of accessories/mags/stocks etc.

It's pretty hard not to vote for the good ole 10/22.

Here's my 10/22, in its Nomad stock, with about 40-50 rounds out of the GSG drum.
