Help me pick a USP!

The HK45 was a project that HK, Ken Hackathorn and Larry Vickers worked on to massage the USP to be more user friendly/ updated/ ergonomic. Like the USP which started out as a .40, and then was available as a 9mm and .45, the new HK45 should be available in other calibres. The thumb safety is thinner more like a 1911, and the grip is more rounded at the top to make it more comfortable. It also has three different grips, and is basically "less boxey" than a USP. Even the mag well opening looks better. It also sits slightly lower in the hand.
Interesting..... when are they available in the states?

EDIT I saw the other thread on the HK45 but I still didn't see a release date, if its in the spring thats perfect, cuz thats when I plan on buying another handgun. :D

Isn't the P30 an HK Germany thing? HK45 is an HK USA thing.....
I'm pretty sure the P30 will be available in the States too (not in Canada though - too short to make restricted).

HK germany is still unsure about the HK45. The P30 is being sold in that country though.

Well... here it is. I decided to go with the standard model. Not really a fan of those target sights. I shoot best with 3 dots, and this has some nice metal 3 dots.

I know some people don't like the grip, but I find this gun to be a good fit for my hand. Feels good with my thumb on top of the decocker when shooting two handed - thumb under if I take a one-handed shot (not sure why that is, but it works).

I'm going to post a bunch of comparative shots of the GLOCK, Walther, Steyr and HK polymer pistols soon. I have taken the pictures already. Hopefully that will be interesting to some of you. If only I had an XD to complete the study.

I would get the Custom Sport. The match trigger is nice, and a lot of people like the target sights (I prefer 3 dot myself)

Good choice, Ghostie, and congratulations! :)

I just bought an HK USP 45 used, and I can't wait to try it out. :D

Best wishes, Jeff/1911.

HK Germany will be producing the P30 L, I believe it will be available in Canada. This is basically a longer P30, with the same slide design of the HK45, but with the grips of the P30.

Custom Sport. I've shot the CS & the standard gun, the CS sights make a world of difference.

With the CS I could splinter a stake at 50 metres, the standard sights were hard to group with at 25.

The CS sights sit so high because they are configured to use with a suppressor.

yeah it goes without saying that the stock 3 dot sites are not what you want for steel and target shooting. Tactical front post even better.

I have a USP Custom Sport and am not a huge fan of the Black adjustable sights, but to be honest I have no difficulty shooting it accurately and it is the gun I use in IPSC Prod.

Overall I like the gun and do not regret the purchase in the least.

I shoot the standard 9mm USP (Variant 1) in IPSC, everything is stock and works great, trigger took a little time to smooth up but now it is slick and smooth.

I have meprolight night sights I am going to be putting on it but otherwise am very happy with it and have no intentions of changing pistols

Here's a couple of pictures on the small hands/big hands issues with the USP.

This is my girlfriend shooting the USP. She shoots this gun very well, despite having small hands. Because she is smaller, and because of her shooting style, her strong hand thumb is nowhere near the decocker:

This is me shooting the USP. I ride the decocker with my strong hand thumb and I find the gun very comfortable and very stable to shoot this way:

Both of us have really been impressed by this gun. A real pleasure to shoot. Very accurate. Very fast. Very rewarding to shoot. Love this gun.

I just went through the same debate myself: USP or USP Custom Sport.

I wound up with a Custom Sport mainly because it was an excellent deal, ending up less than a standard USP. I am more accustomed to the three dot sites, but I really liked the trigger on the CS. We'll see how I adapt to the adjustable sites. Can't wait to get it out to the range.

So what is the diff. between USP and USP Custom Sport?

I know CS has the adj. sights, mags have extanded floor plate, and the match trigger (is that the only option?) what about the barrel; does it have standard rifling or polygonal? Everything else is tha same right?

Can you use CS mags in regular USP? btw are they plastic too?
