So I'm looking to by my first shotgun , and would like some help!!! I've narrowed my search to three guns, mossberg 500 spx , Remington 870 express tactical and the Winchester spx defender. Is there one that's hands down better?? Is one total junk?? Just looking for honest opinions and reviews. I am also open to other models but really like the ones i've listed!

Go fingerf*€{ them all at a store. Figure out what safety is best(500). Which slide release you prefer. Which action you like the most.
Or do what i did and buy them all, or the ones your buddies dont have. Then go out and test the girls out side by side.
I first bought a used defender for sentimental reasons. Then a pistol grip 500 field for $250 new! I called my buddy with an express magnum, and we went out. I really liked them all, I prefered the safety on 500. I preferred the release of the 870. The defender tries to pump itself when fired (crazy smooth).
One way to decide is ask yourself"self do I want to EASILY put a bunch of crap all over this gun?" if the answer is "yes" then 870. I too am still deciding. Better to pick one and not crosstrain.

I went back and looked at the 500 spx. The pistol grip stock on those, make your safety a pain to use unless you have MAN hands. But yeah sweet gun otherwise.

I really dont think you would be dissapointed in either but its all preferance. I like the Mossberg the best becasue of the location of the action realese, safety aswell as the twin extractors. I also like that the elevator sits flush so you dont have to fumble with getting a shell in the tube. I would agree with other posts that you should go handle some for yourself.

Thanks for all the replies! The winchester has great reviews ,but it's doesn't come drilled and taped. I really want to have a nice red dot on my shotgun, so that kinda steers me away from it. The mossberg I've never handled so I'll have to find a shop that has them in stock. Lastly the Remington , no one likes that for some reason! I've had lots of time on a tac 2 and love that gun, unfortunately it's not in my price range right now. I guess I'll just have too go play with them all and see what happens!

just load one slug,one OO,one slug,one OO,,youll never need to aim :)

My .02....never rely and therefore never use the safety on a shotgun. Keep your booger hook off the bang switch, that's your "safety" :D

That's my safety with any loaded gun. The other one seems silly: either it's too far from danger to chamber a round, or too close to bother with the safety.

Oh, and I vote remy 870 if your poor, lot's of others if your not.

All three are proven platforms you cant go wrong with none of them.

It all depends on what you want. Go with your gut.

Remember to shoot it, way to many safe queens these days. Run that #####

Fingerf*€{ the s**t out of them. And go in on a couple separate occaisions over the course of a couple of weeks or even a month. One day you may like the Mossberg, but another you may like the Remington. This is what I did, and after about a month and a half I decided on a Mossberg with normal stock. I prefer the safety (you can see if it is on out of the corner of your eye), the slide release (you can hit it without having to move your hand), and how the elevator is out of the way, making reloads easier.

Screw the red dot. Get one with ghost ring sights.

... Run that #####

Agreed. If you are not going through at least 100 shells (birdshot, that would get expensive with slugs) an outting, you are not shooting enough.
