Help me pick optics for Tavor

That's 3 counts for keep it as is. So I tried something tonight. I moved back the 3X one position. It crowds the rear back up sight a bit. Just a little bit of contact with the base of the 3X but it allows me to then move the 512 back too. Between shift of the 3X and reducing the gap between the 3X and the 512 to the minimum I was able to move the 512 back 2 positions or about 1". I think that might do the trick. Add Leg's suggestion for removal of the large head screw for a more low profile allen head screw I might be able to make this work after all.

Well I can't seem to get this to work for me. Been shooting off a bench with no issues after moving the 512 and 3x back until this weekend. My buddy and I decided to run some IPSC practice drills. I tapped my eye a couple times and he did once when using the rifle. Then when moving into a position to gain support off a bench the mag caught the bench and I smashed my eye and nose into the 3x and pi$$ed blood out my nose for the next half hour. So move everything forward and the hand gets scars, move everything back the face eats it. Thinking the combo is heading to the EE soon and starting over with perhaps a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6 on an offset mount (those ones that crane forward). Unless you guys think that would not give my hand clearance or my face would smash into it. Never had these issues with the AR.

I recommend the Burris PEPR mount. Nice cantilever mount for the price. You can get them that attach conventionally to your rail or with QD levers. Nice for the money.

Have you considered just replacing the 512 with another RDS? That would allow you to keep the magnifier and possibly keep the overall price down. Given how chunky EoTechs are, a lower profile RDS might give you more clearance. I imagine you might be able to find a used Aimpoint for under $500. I've heard good things about the Bushnell TRS-25 and the price is definitely right. There appears to be options with the mounting screw on the right side.

I have a TRS-25 that's gathering dust on the gun crap shelf. I haven't tried it on this rifle but might now that you suggested it. The profile would certainly be less hand gouging. In the past I found the TRS-25 and any RDS other than EOTech to be hard to find the small dot. Will give it a try though.

Well that didn't work. The TRS-25 was way too low without going to a riser.

I smell a 1-4 / 1-6 (strike fire likely).

Anyone in the Fredericton / Oromocto area with a Tavor and one of these types of optics installed to see ergos?

Burris XTR II, 1.5-8x 34mm....awesome scope !

Thanks rickspeed for the pic. So I would hazard to guess that your hand never makes contact with the base/rings or scope while manipulating the charging handle?

I ran a 1x4 with a burris mount that worked well. Only problem i had was height over bore for 3 gun, the close in stuff was really hard to figure out my drop.

I have a lot of problems with that on the AR. Just have to remember to aim hi.

On another note A fellow IPSCer was over tonight and looked at the rifle and my dilemma and suggested a riser. Perhaps the Gearhead Works full length. Thinking that might raise the 512 enough (1/2") would be enough?

How does the Primary Arms ACSS compare to the Vortex Strike Eagle?

Moe

I am trying to decide between the two as well and would like to hear others opinions

The Primary Arms is available in 1-8x as well as 1-6x like the Strike Eagle but the Vortex has the edge on warranty for sure

The extra 2x is a big draw though all other things being equal......

I went with something similar to Rickspeed, but with less magnification... in my case a Burris TAC30 1-4. I've had Elcans and ACOGs on my tavor, but I just keep going back to this optic. I don't know why, but I just really like this optic on this gun.

The case is made by Elite Survival Systems...30" case. IMHO..the best case for the Tavor.
And I added a 1/2" riser made by YHM...no problems with the charging handle / hand getting in the way.
As for my choice of optics, my first scope was a Vortex Viper PST, 1-4× MRAD. The Burris is much better.
