Help me pimp my 870 MM: From a purist to tacticool, I'm so ashamed.

870 Police by Tactical Ordnance:

- Vang Comp Systems (VCS) modified barrel with ports
- VCS Mag extension
- VCS Mag follower
- VCS big saftey
- Mesa Rail
- Scattergun/Trijicon tritium sights
- Mesa shotshell holder
- Mesa recoil stock with Enidine buffer
- Mesa hook loops
- Surefire 618FGA Light
- BFG sling

Completely reparkerized and finished in grey teflon.

I've owned both. They are nice, very solid. Downside to both the mesa and the knoxx is the weight. They are heavy.

Oh dear. I'm so torn. Too many decisions. In addition Knoxx isn't shipping to anyone for some reason. Maybe I do go mesa, I noticed on their website that they have a recoil reducing tube for the telescoping stock. We may have a winner. Anybody use one of these enidine hydraulic recoil solutions?

Now I'm leaning towards keeping it "pimp" nickel. Adding the mesa stock, the mesa 6 shell side carrier and the Trijicon/Scattergun ghost rings. I'm probably gonna dump the breacher's extension because I'll be keeping the original nickel mag-extension.

The Lorax: you have one of the most beautiful shotty's I've ever seen. I don't think I'd copy you though. Why have a rail when you have ghost rings? Looks nice but I don't see function.

I don't want the surefire forend as I believe a light would give away my position more tan it would illuminate the other guys. Plus it is yet again more bulk.

I've heard this said a few times.

I personally chose a holosight because it affords the ability to cover and accurately engage one target in my peripheral LOS while actively observing/scanning my arcs for others; and this without having to re-aquire traditional (and slower) 4 point alignment.

Also works well for shooting from behind cover.

As long as I can see the dot on part of the target, I know I can pull the trigger and destroy exactly what it is hovering over.

My old girl...

Sorely missed.

Going to redo, with a 14" barrel. YMMV, but I prefer the 870's safety to that of the Mossy, as it is far easier to reach and activate 'one-handed' when using with a pistol grip.

If you take a close look I have one on the shotty pictured. Between the Vag Comp and the Enidine system you can could hose down an entire grid square with 3" magnums and still be smiling.

Thanks.

It's perfectly functional (the gun was originally built as a working gun).

Tritium iron sights are fine for lining up your sights if you can make out your target but they don't really work in the pitch black of night in the middle of nowhere. An infrared sight like the ISM-IR sight does because you can clearly see your target. The ISM-IR mounts on a picatinny rail.

You will notice that the Benelli M4 which is US military issue has both ghost rings and a rail so you can slap on a wide array of optics.

The forend light can have an IR cap mounted on it or you can unscrew the light completely and replace the white light with either an IR or visible laser.

The forend has a momentary pressure pad switch so you can flash the light as needed while moving. It causes the target to become confused. Used properly it confers an advantage to the user. Improperly used its a liability.

Most of this is overkill to be sure but WTF eh?

I also have to agree with Sprint - red dots are generally the way to go. I usually use a Docter sight on this unit.

Here's mine parted together from the EE.

Messa Low Mount
Magpul CTR
Surefire 618
Scattergun Tech (ST)tritium sights
ST oversized safety
ST +1 extension, follwer/spring
Single point sling
18" barrel with ST tritium sight and +2 extention (not in photo)

All I need is a rail on top.

I guess we're all trying to steer drvrage away from his shiny Marine Mag. :D

The saddle on this one is gone now. This is an old photo of my factory 14" MOD. Police Magnum. I keep a shorter, youth buttstock on this one.

I like my guns plain and simple.

My HP9 (870 clone) is one of my favourite pimped up toys. Set up specifically for defense style shooting, 3 gun etc, it has taken out a number of porcupines on my back 40.

Uses a Brobee setup, Bushnell optic with red or green inverted "T" sight, holds 5+1, side saddle shell carrier, single point sling and an after market forearm (can't remember who makes it right now).

She's been well used, and abused, lives half its life in the back of my pickup. Very handy with its 14 inch barrel.

Needs to be re-parked right now as the right side is getting pretty worn from it rubbing against my kit.

The one thing I would do different is the optic. I think you are good on the choice of the ghost rings. They are "always on". No fiddling with an on off switch in the dark.

What is the proper use of the light? If it is dark, it tells someone to shoot at the light. While it may also blind the assailant, if "flicked on" from pitch black couldn't it blind you as well, like when you turn on your lights in the morning and get blinded temporarily while your eyes adjust.

I've googled/you tubed lots of shotgun training writing and vids but I haven't seen anything convincing about the surefire lights. I have however been convinced of the wisdom of shotshell carriers and a good sling. I'll be using my SOC-C from Blue Force Gear.

I do have an aimpoint, but I prefer to keep that on my XCR. I will never be able to afford NV so the rail is out. If it can't be done with ghost rings, I shouldn't be doing it in the first place. :)

I'm just waiting on the word from TacOrd when they have some time to work on my shottie. He said shortly in the new year. (Seems pretty busy).

I'm now leaning on black gun kote for the MM again. The MM was not bought to be "pimpin" I bought it because of the shorter barrel, extended mag and most of all waterproof. Gun kote gets rids of the blinding shinyness of the nickel, but of course still retains the scratch resistance/rustproofness of the gun. Also the internals have rustproofing as well.

In the end it's your gun and you should do what you like with it, not what some old fart FUDD thinks is good, anyhow FUDDs are a dying breed, long live Generation Tacticool.

I say leave it stainless.

Nickel not stainless. Big difference.

For your reading enjoyment:

A good read thx. I think that this further convinces me that a light is likely a liability (at least in my hands). I am not the type to do drills over and over again as I am overweight, lazy and employed. I don't think it is for me.
