Help me put together a shopping list for a 550 from dillon

gonna head to the states soon, and was thinking of saving the time, duties, and hassle of international shipping to canada, and getting a 550 shipped to where i'm staying instead.

I am planning on reloading for 9mm and .223 to start. what would you guys put on a shopping list? also, would the box be too big to fit on a plane? worth the hassle?

i'll be gone about a week, so i'll have a $750 exemption limit (ie. no taxes on the first $750 declared), and i'll be travelling with another person, so we should have a combined $1500 exemption limit.

ya, i'm not averse to getting stuff locally, but the markup seems to be significant. for eg. on mdgardner the 550b itself is $617, on dillon, it is $406US, or ~$450cad. basically take the US price, multiply by about 45%, plus sales taxes...

so you wont have to change powder measure from one toolhead to the other when converting calibers.
and you will need an extra powder die (one for each cal' on the toolhead)

That's what this is on the list, -RL 550B deluxe quick change assembly tool head, it's a toolhead with the powder die & measure on a stand. I have them for my 650, makes it ALOT easier to change calibers.

Yes, definetly do not forget a 550 parts kit, very usefull.

You will also need some case lube to reload 223

The casefeeder for the 550 only handles pistol brass.

For 9mm at least, you would be just as well to use the barrel of your pistol as a case gauge.

You can actually put together your own stuck case removal kit for less than the cost of the Redding one. All you need are a 1/4" UNF tap, a 7/32" drill bit, a 1/4" bolt, two 1/4" flat washers, two 1/4" fender washers, and a socket or other similar spacer. "...fit on a plane?..." It'd go in the cargo hold with your luggage. Likely cost you a shipping fee to bring it back by air. Contact Dillon for the size and weight of the box. Bringing it back yourself won't save you any duty, if there is any. You will have to pay GST and PST, if there is PST where you are.
