I hope to tap into the collective knowledge of CGN to come up with information on a vintage deer hunting book.
About 20 years ago I borrowed a deer hunting book from a coworker that I really enjoyed, I would like to find another copy but cannot remember the title or author's name.
I do remember some of the specific details and hope that if I list them some other Gunnut would be kind enough fill in the blanks for me?
- The book was not overly large 100 to 200 pages and set in the US Northeast, but may have ventured up into eastern Canada and was totally or primarily about whitetail deer.
- It was a how-to hunt deer chapter book and discribed the successful hunting career of a fellow in the '50, '60 and maybe as late as the '70?
- The author was an avid still-hunter and was very particular about hunting in the shadows of the conifer trees, walking around clearings in the forest and still-hunting at dawn/dusk when the deer were also mobile.
- There was a section on rifles and cartridges and I think the hunter may have favoured the Remingtion semi-auto, perhaps chambered in 30-06.
- There was a chapter on how to conduct yourself when you are the new guy or guest at a hunting camp.
- The hunter spoke about what deer do at night and how they are much more at ease than during the daytime.
- The consideration of wind while hunting was well discribed and I think thermals were examined.
I have purchased and read many terrific deer hunting books but have never seen this one again, any help from the collective wisdom of CGN members to identify the title, author or where I may find a copy would be most appreciated.
Thank you,
WeakKnee
