I need some advice about what scope to put on my SL8-5. I am considering several rather different options. Price is not really a factor in the decision.

1) Leupold Mark 4 CQ/T 1-3x14mm
2) Leupold Mark 4 1.5-5X20 PR (not the illuminated model)
3) Bushnell Elite 3200 10x40 mildot

I mostly enjoy firing fairly rapidly, at close range (25-50m). But, occassionally, I will have the gun out for gopher shooting. Any advice as to which of these scopes would be best?

10x fixed is a bit strong for 25 meters id say...especially fast firing. its a good scope tho, i have one on my m14. but i wouldn't suggest it for the ranges your talking about.

I've heard some good feedback on Mk4 1.5-5x20 MR/T ILLUM M2 or/and the new MK4 2.5-8x32MR/T..

However, I saw once at Genesee an SL8-4 with 4.5-14x50LRT once..

You gotta go down to the shop and see what actually fits Uncle. That scope mount rail will not accept scopes with large objective bells. I took off my high power scope and went to a Leupold Vari-X III in 1.5x5 power. I gave up quite a bit of accuracy to do so, but it has minute of Coyote out to 200 yards.

That one that Airborn has above looks like a real winner, I will have to check it out.

I've been looking at the IOR Valdada 4X24, for about $400 US you can't go wrong. There 1.1X5 is a little more expensive at $699 US.

Acrash I have the SL8-4 and some scopes had to be mounted too far forward and as a result the eye relief wasn't there. If you go to high mounts then you are facing the prospect of putting a cheekpad on the cheakpad of the rifle.

One of the guys at my range uses a Leupold 2x7 variable that works well.

The checkspacers are cheaper from Wolverine, I would also suggest getting the shorter rail from them too if you want to put a 40mm or larger lense on it.

Good choice. It's what I went with as well with my SL8/5. I found that with the mount I had difficulty getting clearance over the iron sights. I tried mounting the Mark 4 CQ/T but the rear iron sight got in the way. For my eye relief the eyepiece had to be positioned back over the rear iron sight. Plus I like the backup redundency and look of the iron sights so didn't want to remove them.

The scope wouldn't quite clear the rear sight now so I took it apart and fabricated a shim to allow me to lower the ghost ring about a 1/4" past where it would normally bottom out by compressing the set spring. Now the scope would fit if the rings or the rear sight were in a V position; neither up or down. This allowed the scope use but the iron sight would have to be recalibrated if I wanted to use them. Ok as long as you never use the iron sights, which one may. It worked for a bit but started to nag at me. In addition I had to notch more spaces for the scope mount as I'm still waiting for my short rail from Wolverine (since last October).

So to fix the iron sight utilization issue I ordered an ARMS #12 quick detach mount and this gave me the slight extra clearance I needed plus the quick detach option I prefer allows switching between the telescopic scope, iron sights or a red dot scope if desired.

P&D in Edmonton have some in CQ/T's second hand for $800 used in decent condition. Apparently they came from a security outfit for the Pickering Nuclear power plant. These also have the low light settings for night sights that are not availible for import anymore from the states as far as I know.

I've included a pic on how it looks on mine. I'll look better in my opinion when the notched short rail and pistol grip/folding stock comes in... hopefully next month. It may look long but at 18.5" its legal for gophers to coyotes which is what I wanted. Hope the info helped. Cheers.

I have one of the Bushnell 10x mil-dot scopes on mine right now but am thinking of replacing it with one of those Bushnell Yardage Pro 4-12x42 Laser Rangefinder units. While they look bulky on a hunting rifle, I think it might match the looks of the SL8. With the built-in range finder, BDC turrets and mil-dot, might just be the perfect setup for tagging gophers.

Help...anyone know how to install the SL8-4 bipod onto the rifle?

To install the factory bipod, you just need to pull out the sling-eye-pin-thingy by pressing up on the retaining clip then put bipod in place and replace the pin.

I just bought an SL8-4 today. For now, I have an Aimpoint clone on it but I want to find a carry handle/ dual sight for it. I want to convert it to a G36 look alike rifle.
