Okay, rifle is in, was looking at scopes today. Found two I liked in my price range. Choice one is the Burris Fullfield 2, 3X9X40. Choice 2 is a Shirstone 4X12X44. Been reading good things about the Burris, but am having trouble finding more info on the Shirstone.

I have a few Burris scopes and I like them, never had any problems with any of the 3 that I own. I picked up a T-3 270 WSM a few years ago and put a Leupold VXII 3X9X40 on it. I'm really impressed with the scope, plus the warranty is tough to beat as they are serviced in Okotoks in the unlikely event something breaks. Leupolds also have fairly good eye relief, which is nice in a light rifle with a bit of kick.

Burris FFII 3-9x40 Ballistic Plex or even more magnification depending on application....Your price range must be about $350 right? A Leupold VX I would also fit into that category and may I suggest the 3-9x40 LR Duplex or the 4-12x40 LR Duplex. The Burris also carry a lifetime warrantee but must be sent to Colorado. The Leupolds get sent to Alberta for Canadian warrantee work. The Burris FFII's are also made over seas while the Leupold VX's are made in USA

I've got a FFII on my 270WSM and really like it. The ballistic-plex recticle is pretty much right on, at least for hunting purposes anways.

This is slowly driving me insane.Went back to the gun shop to look again tonight, he pulls out the VX3, and a weaver grand slam. Now I have no idea what to do. Since I didn't win the Super 7, no VXL for me. Looked at the Rifleman again tonite, also a pretty nice scope. Not sure if I really need the adjustable objective of the VX3 or the Shirstone. Back to the research.

I have a Leo Varix III 4x14 and it's awesome

I've got a VX-III 4.5-14x50 with the Varmint Hunter's reticle on order, should be here next week. Was going to mount it on my 700 VLS .243 but think I might sell it and buy something with a bit more magnification for paper punching.

Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9x40mm... you can't beat 'em. ;)

I'll echo this sentiment, but change it to 5-15x40 AO (P/N 32-5154M in matte finish) and you'll have my favourite scope atop my favourite rifle.

If your budget can handle it,a 3x9x40 ziess conquest. If you are on a smaller budget, the 3x9x40 elite 3200.Stay with a magnification of 3x9 or 3x10 on a big game rifle.
