I have a grip on my 1911 that extends the magwell past the grip frame. The stock 7 round magazines that came with the gun are now recessed into the bottom of the magwell and are hard on the hands to seat. Id like something about 1/2 inch or so longer. Will an 8 round mag be longer? Is there such a thing as a mag base plate that would just slip on? Im brand new to 1911's so magazine length is a bit difficult to figure out. I have to think an 8 round mag would be longer.

Does anyone have any experience with Archangel mags? Or what about the promag 10 rounders? The gun was cheap, so id just like to have at least 3 mags of the appropriate length for this grip setup. If I have to buy 3 new ones and off the ones I have now, so be it (id like to have 8 round mags anyway). Or, if I can extend the ones I have, that would be good too.

Thanks for the help and any pics you may have comparing different mags would be great.

I was just on brownells site. i can see a few upgrades in my future. What is the process ordering from them? Just place an order? Or is there additional paperwork?

Also, can any of you enlighten me as to the compatability of parts for a Norinco 1911? Is there anything I need to know or watch out for? Anything known not to fit?

Do you have the Archangel grips with the mag well base? If you don't like em I will buy em off you. Otherwise base pad for your mags are required - 7 or 8 round mags don't matter its the base pads. Be sure to order base pads that do not flare out other wise they still may not fit because the tapers may not match. Or just buy 8 round mags with base pads.

There are a number of Brownells threads on this forum, a search will turn them up and keep this thread from going off topic.

The Norinco is a standard Government version 1911 in terms of parts compatibility. HOWEVER, 1911s in general require fitting of many internal parts like all fire control parts from trigger to hammer, thumb safety, grip safety, and extractor (just off the top of my head). You might get lucky and find an actual drop-in fit for one of these parts, and you might not. Every 1911 is a unique and beautiful snowflake. :)

You can (relatively) easily play around with all springs, grips, guide rod and spring plug, and magazines. The mainspring housing is a pretty good bet as well, but some fitting can be required.

The 8 rounders from Dlask have a plastic bump pad that also doubles as the removable end for cleaning out the mags when needed. They stick out far enough that I'm pretty sure the end would be flush with the edges of your magwell grips.

I believe that they are re-badged Mec-Gars made in Italy that have a small "DLASK" stamping on them. But hey! They work in both my 1911's just fine.

Its not that i DONT like those 10 rounders... but I just think they look funny. I was hoping for more of a flush fit. I think the Dlask mags will work perfect and are only $25 each.

Just bought 3 dlask 8 round, blued mags and a trigger for $100... though that was pretty good. Once I test them ill decide what I want to do with the factory mags. Keep or sell.

Got my Dlask mags today. They look and feel great. Fit perfectly in the gun, lock the slide back tight and are the perfect length for the magwell. For $75 for 3 of them, no complaints.

you should have gone to Wolverine and gotten the 8rd mags for $18 plus tax/ship. they're great for magwell guns, and about as affordable as you can possibly get AND they're made by ACT-MAG and have a good follower.

nice that is cheap

yup. i bought a dozen, and after tax/ship it nets out to $23 per mag. if i get any deeper into 1911 territory and make them half of all of my shooting, or want long long LONG uninterrupted shooting sessions, i may pick up another dozen... or few dozen.
