help me spend $1000.00

I see a lot a savages at range and fellows are doing very very well with them that trigger is very nice, but if your going to shoot out to 600 yards on target the Remington Police or there New XCR Tactical, wouold be a fine choice,I bought a police in .223 Rem this spring and it shoots very good after fixing trigger to 2lbs, I bought mine to shoot f/m class shooting, one other member mentioned the Rem 700 in VSF it would be a fine gun but you will get beat at long range matches 90 % of the time because it has a 1/12 and you will have to shoot the smaller bullets and they do not like any wind, the twist in the police is 1/9 twist which will shoot the 75gr match bullets much better and will do out to 1000 yards, I am not familiar with the savage but I think they offer a 1/8 and that would be even better with larger bullets like 80gr + with a high BC that you need for long shooting.

Actually don't listen to me, I'm just kidding around, sort of. Make sure you at least have the stereo you want to listen to for the next twenty years, and maybe the biggest TV you can't afford too. :D

I've got a Remmington 700 VSSF in .223 that easily shoots 3/4 MOA out of the box. There is a lot of good comments about the savages as well. Go find one that fits you well and pick something in your price range. The .223 is a little cheaper to shoot compared to the 22-250 but not as much as it was before Iraq sucking up all the milsurp ammo.

Either will shoot to that range, but if $1000 is your limit, your better off to buy a used rifle and buy some good optics if you want to reach out to 600 yards.
 
buy a tikka T3 varmint stainless in 22-250, i have one and will never ever get rid of it. it that doesnt tickle you then go for the T3 tactical in 223 and let the powder burn
 
My daughter & son in law each have a Savage 112BVSS in .25-250. I was impressed with the degree of accuracy so I opted for the same, except in .25-06. 'Bang for the buck', it's hard to beat. With 'good' glass and one of my first batches of handloads I shot a three shot group at 185 yds measuring 0.486".:)Well pleased.
 
For the purpose you are outlining look no further than a Savage 12FV. It has a 26" heavy barrel with 1 in 9 twist. I had one and it shot 75 grain Amax's accurately to just over 1400 meters (I know, I know, I must be full of crap...). Truly a great plinking/long range rifle. It's got the accutrigger and shoots like a house on fire. Mine shot 55 grain Win white box ammo into 1/2" at 100 yards. with the 75 grain Amax clay's were a breeze at 700 meters (ask Mystic, I'd pulverize his as he was aiming for them:D).

I will likely buy another one before next years Summerland shoot!
