Here is what I am starting with:

Looks like my annual bonus will be better than expected this year so now it's time to spend the extra money. Current rifle weight is 8.3 lbs. The goal is a lighter rifle for 3-gun next season. I'm happy enough with the Colt Canada lower. Without a mag inserted it currently weighs 2.2 lbs. Not sure if there is much of a weight savings to be had by swapping receivers but I'm guessing it would be minimal. I am also happy with the scope and mount for now though I may upgrade to a TA-33 ACOG down the road. What I really want is a lighter weight upper with a 16" barrel and a full length M-LOK handguard. Currently looking at the new Maple Ridge Armoury 16.1" upper that will be released soon. I'm expecting a price of around $1200. That will save me 1 lbs and bring the total weight down to 7.3 lbs. Plus it would keep the made in Canada theme. Or I could spend $1955 at Wolverine for a Daniel Defense V7 which along with my optics would also weigh in at 7.3 lbs. More money, but now I have two rifles. I could set the IUR up with irons or a red dot and run in factory division if I felt like it. Also open to other suggestions. I have most of the tools to build an upper and could probably borrow the ones I don't have. Is there anything else in this price range that I should consider? Was considering the Battle Arms Development lightweight receiver set with the matching 15" handguard and a 16" barrel but out of stock everywhere I've looked.

With the black Friday sale this upper should be at your door with a charging handle bolt carrier and bcm muzzle brake for around 1100 Canadian. If you don't need the bolt carrier and charging handle around 900.

Here's my honest take. Ditch the fat pig IUR upper and start fresh. Anything from DD is good to go so pick your flavour. Another option is to either build or have someone build you an upper. A 16" barrel with midlength gas system would be a very wise choice. Government profile or thinner if you're looking to shave weight. If you want to stick with Canadian made then a CC MRR 16" would work, although it is still carbine gas but that's not the end of the world.

ETA: Ah yes, any of the BCM in stock uppers on their website can be had by a certain third party via import.. State of Arizona(AZ) Technical(TEC).

Already done. But that's a more long term plan.

The BCM looks nice but I can't seem to find any specs on the weight.

The weights for their uppers are listed on the website. Once you click on weights you have to look hard on the right side of the screen to see the black font against their dark background. I find if I simply highlight all the text from top left and move your cursor as far right as you can go then the text appears nice and white with a blue highlight.

Interesting but too rich for me.

I've already spent part of the bonus building up my Savage Mk II FV in a MDT LSS-22 chassis. I contacted Wolverine about getting just the DDM4V7 upper but they weren't going to have an order in anytime soon so I just went with the MRA as it was just released and the dealers are starting to get stock in (I'm not one to be patient). I've got a little bit left that I can play with so I might upgrade my scope to the Leupold Mark AR 1.5-4x20mm. but it is a 1" tube so then i'd have to get a new mount as well. It would however take another 0.3 lbs off so I would be right around 7 lbs even with the optic. I really wanted the Trijicon TA-33 as well this year but we need to build a shed so I can't tie up that much money with toys right now.
