Looking for opinions on the best rifle I can get for this kind of money??

I was gonna go with a couple cheaper rifles for small vs. big game, but figure I will spend the money on one quality gun and a reloading setup instead.

Open to all suggestions, and at this point leaning towards a Browning BLR if I can find one for that kind of money.

Used for an all around rifle, likely topped with a 2-7 or 3-9.

Light weight is a plus...

Thanks,

Are you set on a lever action? The BLR is a nice setup, but if you are looking for a decent 270 in a lever, your options are quite limited and I think you didn't need to ask! lol

Something to consider:

P&D Enterprises has a Weatherby Vanguard Sporter, blued steel with walnut stock, in .270, for $799
.. that comes to just under $1000 with tax.

Remington SPS/DM, put the rest towards decent glass and you will have a very practical setup in what ever caliber you choose. personally I think the 270 Winchester is the best of the non-magnum calibers out there. But I have always had a soft spot for the 7mm Remington Magnum as a general purpose hunting cartridge (coyotes to moose)

Any money spent on a 270 is wasted in my opinion...............buy a 7mm RM or 300 WM or even a 30-06 or 280 but not a 270...................JEEEEEZEEE!!!
It might be a reasonable opinion in Whitehorse but the OP is in Southern Ontario where there are calibre restrictions (under .275" bore) in many regions and townships.

Well so far I have been going back and forth between the Tikka t3 Lite and the Browning Xbolt Composite Stalker.

Leaning towards the Browning at this point........

And yes, calibre restrictions here make the .270 the best all around option. Calibre is not up for debate as I already have the reloading gear and have started making some loads.

take your time to pick if you are not in a big hurry and go grope a bunch of them. M70 featherweight is what I would pick if I went new and if I went used I would try to find an old Browning Safari in very good condition.
