After a week up at the hunt camp, I've decided what my next purchase will be. I'm looking for a rifle but I have some specific requests....
1 - must be short so I can carry it easily through the bush.
2 - I want a semi auto. I have multiple bolt actions that would do the job, but I own no semi auto rifles.
3 - It has to come with iron sites. This isn't such a huge deal, I can put an aim point on just about anything.

This gun is meant for the stands where I can see 75 yards max, I will have my 270 Tikka with a 4-12 Redfield for the field sits.

I've come across the BAR and the Benelli R1 so far. Anything else anyone can recommend?

My bush semi is a Ruger 44 carbine. I put a ghost ring and hi-viz front sight on it and their isn't a better deer gun for inside 100 yards.

I've always liked Remington 750 wood master or 742 carbine. Think those were the model numbers. Carbine. Drop box mag. Iron sights flure De Le checkering. I keep acquiring them but end up selling them before hunting season. Decent guns

I shoot a XCRL 6.8 for the woods and dog drives.

I had real bad accuracy with the BAR ShorTrac in .243. I believe(been told) the Benelli has issues with accuracy and sight removal if you want a scope.

The Remy semis are popular at our camp with red dots and open sights. Last camp, we had to run a lot of wounded deer with the Ruger, but the shooter plays largely in that too.

I used my cz858 this year for deer. I found it very light and manageable on my quad due to the shorl length. Unfortunately i didnt see any bucks to take. I bought a small 5 round mag so i didnt look like rambo with my 30 round banana clip lol. I think i will use it again this weekend. Good luck ou your search for a new rifle.

Ruger mini in 6.8. Small, very easy to use in brush and all the power you will need inside 200yrd. That would be my go to rifle for your requirements.

Also consider whether one of the short (18.5") barrelled versions of the Norinco M14 copy will suit. Not light, but at the same weight a shorter gun feels handier than a long one, and weight absorbs recoil. At 75 yards it should be accurate enough, even with open sights, and .308Win is enough cartridge.

If I could afford it I'd rather have something "nicer" like a Browning BAR, but I don't know how much money you have or how much "nicer" is worth to you.

Love the Voere, but I could tune up a fair pile of SKS's for the money & have solid, proven reliability to boot.
absolutely they would be solid and proven reliable (and you would have LOTS of redundancy) however no matter how much lipstick you put on the SKS ... it will still never be able to approach what this version of the 2185 platform can do if required:

And the nice thing is that the 2185 can be quickly converted to a manual straight pull repeater if you want ... sometimes a handy option.. the 2185 is VERY accurate when set up
