help me with picking a 1911

The Spartan has a reputation of being more accurate than the Ruger, and has adjustable sights - apart from that, pricing is similar and quality is good for both. At a course earlier this year one of the 1911's that didn't puke on day 2 was a Spartan, it was also one of the least expensive 1911's being shot.

I only have experience with a few Sig 1911's and they are well made. Fit and finish is very good. IMO they are worth the extra $$.
If you plan on holstering a Sig 1911 you may find more holster choices for the non-railed version.
I'm sure the others you mentioned are good 1911's but you really can't go wrong with Sig!

informal training,fun target shooting

like me, I just got the Remington R1 enhanced three weeks ago, very well balance, extremely accurate (I was surprise on this one), it is a full size 1911, almost not much recoil than my Beretta 92fs.

Best choice for the price compare to others more $$$

Spartan....STI do 1911's for people that shoot their guns. Has all the features you want in a 1911 at a really good price.

I only have 1 1911 (so far) and it is the Remington R1 Stainless, I love the fit and finish of the gun, how it feels in my hands, and its easily my favorite pistol in my collection. Also, anyone that shoots it at my club is very impressed with all the same things, fit, finish, how it shoots, everything about it.

x 2 for the Remington R1

Cant really comment on the others but Ive owned both a ruger and a STI.I really think that between the 2 the STI is a better gun. After waiting 8 months for the Ruger to arrive and I must say that after all the hype I was a bit dissapointed in it.It is a good looking gun,but the slide/frame fit was pretty loose and the trigger was awful, just under 6 pounds and gritty.Accuracy was OK,not exceptional and it is reliable enough.Ive done a few tweaks on it,better trigger now and I installed a EGW bushing which tightened up the groups a bit,so Im happy enough with it,but for the price, there are other options around(for example,a Norinco that I had a few years ago was pretty comparable to the ruger in fit,for half the price)

The STI(esp the Spartan),is a really good deal, the finish is a bit ugly, but its a far better fitted gun, trigger is better out the box and it has adjustable sights and a fibreoptic front. The Trojan is an even better step up,but quite a few dollars more.

Find a price your comfortable with first. Norincos-$300, Sam/RIA $500-$600, SR1911, R1 $700. You can find a kimber for just under $1000. Then for about $1200 you can start looking at S&W, STI, Sig and other kimbers. From there, sky's the limit including colt.

I actually like the park finish on the Spartan. Makes it feel more business like and a shooter. Hard to find a park gun that isn't just in basic A1 configuration....
