help me with picking a 1911

$1200 is about what I am willing to spend.Forgot about the S&W.Now another choice.

The total price for my 1911 Remington R1 Enhanced including 6 box of ammo + 3 additional promag (10rounds) and some accessories was way less than $1200, just 3 weeks ago, no regret, I would rebuy this gun anytime, extremely well balance gun, very accurate, not much recoil.

Keep in mind that 45 auto is not the most economical cartridge to shoot - if you intend to shoot enough of it to be proficient, you need to look at reloading - the cost of the gun equals about 48 boxes of ammo (assuming $25/box) shooting that in a few months is easy to do.

Agree, every gun in your hand must be with the consideration of your budget for the shooting part...., if not, you will not enjoy your gun 100 % ..... when I go shooting, I usualy bring 6-8 box of 9mm / 4 box of .45 / 1 box of .44 magnum

price I pay for Blazer ammo :
9mm = $13 / box
.45 = $ 18/ box
.357 = $ 26 / box
.44 = $ 34 / box

The Spartan has a reputation of being more accurate than the Ruger, and has adjustable sights - apart from that, pricing is similar and quality is good for both. At a course earlier this year one of the 1911's that didn't puke on day 2 was a Spartan, it was also one of the least expensive 1911's being shot.

That was me with my Spartan - For the price you can't beat it. Check out reviews and you will be hard pressed to find much negative about them.
