Need help identify this thing. Please see picture at link below.

Someone sold it to me as a Mossberg 500 mag tube. It's got rings soldered on it. It looked strange, and dirty. I gave it a thorough cleaning and polish, before putting it on, but It did not slide in the tube housing because the metal rings did not allow it.

Has anyone had any experience with this type of mag tube?

Hi Greenhorse, thanks very much. That explained the mystery.

The man who sold me the tube claimed that all Mossberg 500 tubes had the metal rings. He said he had fixed hundreds of Mossberg 500 before, and so, he knew it for a fact.

I just researched Mossberg ATP. It is the original 590, sort to speak. It's the first attempt Mossberg made for police and military. They are now very old and are rare in Canada. It's clear he sold me a tube that is compatible only to those very old, a very specific type of Mossberg 500.

If this GunNut had fixed hundreds of Mossberg 500 before, as he stated, he ought to have known that this tube (with metal rings soldered to it) most likely would not fit my Mossberg 500. It's very probable that he took advantage of my trusting nature and got rid of an old tube, for money. I asked him to send me a picture, but he did not. He said he had full box of tubes in his shop and he would pick the best one to send me. I trusted him.

Lessons learned.

Give him a negative trader rating. He defiantly deserves it.

A negative rating will at least help the next guy. It’s like reading reviews of a company before dealing with them.

If he sold me this old piece of junk, with an intent to scam me, I doubt he cares about a negative rating.

I advise others to absolutely insist on seeing pictures before paying. That way, the risk of getting scammed, although not eliminated, is at least reduced.

That said, I contacted him just now and am trying to resolve this with him, like two gentlemen. I am asking him to refund me half of the money. I think it's fair. We will see.

For the good of the community you should hit him with a negative rating for selling you a mislabeled product. Or demand a refund. If he'll give you a refund that's fine too

But he DOES care about a negative rating. Get more than one or two of those and people start thinking twice about dealing with that person.
