HELP: Mosin-Nagant won't go on "Safe"

You need to pull the rear of the bolt back until you see the cross section cut passes the back of the receiver then turn it counter clockwise.

I dropped my safety off onto the sear after a failed attempt to engage the safety this morning with live round in the chamber. My gloves were slippery and I was still a little pumped after shooting my first deer. It did not go boom, and waking with a loaded mosin on safe is very reassuring.

And it was a 7 point buck Btw. I'll be posting a pic in the hunting section later today.

:)

IF someone were trying to make a "#### on close" bolt mod, there is a remote possibility they ground off the bolt safety bits on the body or cocking piece?

I will remind folks of a technique that I have fond consistently easier when operating Mosinka's safety: put the butt in the crook of your elbow and use just your fingers & wrist to retract and turn the knob. I have used the safety at times while hunting when sound discipline was important, but mostly I use it to keep the bolt from accidentally opening when carrying the rifle slung but without a round chambered.

Regards,
Joel
