Help mounting short scope on long action

I have recently purchased a Savage Axis off of a fellow member and last week I went to epps and bought a new Redfield revolution 2-7 x33mm scope to mount.

My problem is that the scope is too short to fit between the weaver rings mounted to the receiver.

I know that EGW makes a picatinny rail and I think that should solve the problem because I will be able to mount the rings closer together than the factory tapped mounting holes.

However I am finding it tough to find the picatinny rail for a reasonable shipping rate and I am concerned if the rail can ship from the US to Canada. Does anybody know a solution to the mounting or a source in Canada that has the picatinny rail to fit my gun?

Your help is appreciated fellow CGNers I just want to get out soon to sight it in and become proficient in shooting it before moose season...
 
The Weaver #402M bases are Extension Bases, fits front or rear. That might be enough, extension rings might be needed though.

Keep in mind that eye relief is another factor.
 
IIRC they bring the ring back 1", while extension rings bring the scope back 3/4".
 
Something like this base a Marlin XL7 would work well. That's a 2x7 on a 30/06.

OK I am a do it once and right kind of guy so I ordered the EGW rail from Brownells.

Thanks for the help guys and thanks for turning me to brownells DILLIGAF. The shipping on my order is TBD but I put in a note to ship USPS and as cheap as possible, hopefully it is only $5.75!
 
I have the DNZ one piece rail and rings on all three of my axis. Works great! I think I paid around 80 bucks for them locally. I'm sure you could find a better price online somewhere!

I had the same problem with my Axis and Leupold 2-7x33mm scope. Bought a Weaver offset ring set for less than $20 to solve that problem. I put the offset on the front base and it does not cover the ejection port.

OK another question:

Judging by the pictures above, does anybody think that I should get some lower profile scope rings? If so what do you suggest that would work with the EGW rail?

Tough to say just after looking at photos. The EGW rail does look higher than the factory mounts. I wouldn't have any particular lower rings to recommend without looking at it in person. But if you feel it is too high, I would take the rifle and scope into a shop and put the bottom part of their recommended rings on your rifle, then place your scope on top to see how the bolt clearance works for you. I feel doing this at the shop is the best way to find the proper fit for yourself.
