Out at the range this weekend and the bolt in my savage axis 22-250 came apart, won’t extract the fired brass from the chamber. I know it’s only an axis but it shoots so good I don’t want to give up on it. Anyone have any experience with finding replacement bolt assembly for the axis in particular? Oddly enough google results have come up short . Any help of advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

Justin

The bolt came apart? Have you put it back together? Missing any parts? Why do you think you need an entire new bolt assembly?

Some pictures of the bolt in question might help you find a much less expensive and easier fix, there are a lot of knowledgeable people here.

After firing the last round and realized it didn’t pull the shell, there was a small piece of metal and a tiny ball bearing that fell out of the gun. Might not need an entire new bolt but definitely need the head replaced. I’d rather shell out money and replaced it then running something I don’t trust

The small piece of metal is likely the extractor, and the little ball bearing is the extractor detent. There will also be the extractor spring.
Unless the machined cut in the bolthead is damaged, there is no reason to change it.
In addition, changing the bolthead or bolt will require checking the headspace and possible alterations.

The parts schematic and a quick call to the Savage parts ordering desk tomorrow should get you fixed up I think, I don't care for their rifles but the service is usually excellent and fast
