Help my new SKS won't shoot!!!!

its the mission range. I've used my 10-22 there with the 25 round mags before, but that was when noone was looking. It's a stupid rule, but I'm not one of those types who goes to the monthly meetings to argue with the old guys who run the joint. I don't have the time/patience for that, plus they seem pretty insular to me.

I only am a member because in order to be law-abiding I have to belong to a gun club in order to own a handgun. As far as shooting said handgun, I bring it to that range and there is no limit to how many cartridges you have in the mag as long as it's legal. I don't shoot it that much actually, I like shooting in the bush more with shotguns and my 22 and hopefully now my SKS.

Its a bit of an anal gun club actually... I think because there's a lot of rednecks in mission who have shot up some of the club property so they got pretty rigid. It's also run by a bunch of people who take rifle competition very seriously, so people rapid firing SKS's near them throws them off their game:D

I usedto very much enjoy the range in question and have now boycotted it completely in favor of crown land...... and any members reading this who voted for that stupid rule...... you suck and are a shame to the shooting community :D

firing pin protrusion should be checked, I will see if I can guage a few tomorrow and get back to you with some min/max meaurements.... you'll need a caliper to check yours properly.

Semi auto actions REQUIRE the round to be chambered from the magazine. This is a safety feature that should NOT BE IGNORED.... consider this a warning.
load your fixed mag from the top with it completely locked closed. The rifle you have, as mentioned above has a bolt hold open device when mag is empty. Insert ammo, pull charging handle firmly to rear of travel and let go abruptly. disengage safety and shoot. If nothing happens and rifle does not go boom..... return it to the place you got it from.... it is somehow defective and if it is new...... should be dealt with by the dealer who sold it to you.
beating on your new firearm will not solve the problem. SKS actions are very simple and generally reliable for thousands of rounds..... haven't met one yet that didn't go boom right outta the box.

I agree whole heartedly ! I am lucky to have Silverdale. Was a member of many clubs and left after each started the anal stupid rules. Ended up at Silverdale and asked what can I shoot and not shoot, and was told "You can shoot anything you want as long as it is not on wheels" -Signed up on the spot ! And yes I shot an anti tank cannon there (was on a bi-pod),and full auto , until Ont. CFO disallowed it.
Its the last free club in Ontario - allows non members to shoot on weekends for a small range fee - show your pal and good to go !

I would also give a quick warning to be sure that when you let the bolt fly you have good control over the gun and have it pointed in safe direction. Me and my friend bought our surplus SKS at the same time and place. Mine worked beautifully - my friend's became an unintended full auto slam firing menance.

Ranges such as 1 shot or 5 shot should be banned by the shooting community, we have enough trouble with the lieberals.

as far as no go boom - its usually dirt or grease preventing the pin protrusion, if not the pin isnt long enough

+1....my god that would be annoying. Its bad enough with a target rifle but with a bang stick like an sks....loading and shooting 1 round at a time... makes me cringe just thinking about it. Change clubs if possible.

not to thread hijack but..... if the lieberals get back in power and try thier semi auto ban plans.... they'll be able to point to ranges like this and say..... see... even the shooting community agrees...... maybe we should get a new thread with petitions to reinstate the 5 round rule for ALL rifles at ranges across canada..... it is after all... descrimination hehehe

I'm interested to know if these issues are with the newly imported russian sks's.... or are you guys having issues with the rincos as well?
I've personally owned and shot ove 20 different chinese sks rifles and not one single rifle ever malfuntioned, crappy trigger and accuracy measured in "minute of barn" , but the all behaved as they should have.... ouuta the box, new or used.

Hey boresnake- hope you get your SKS workin properly. I'm still waitin for mine to arrive. As for gun clubs, Port Coquitlam doesn't have that lame single shot rule. The people there were totally welcoming to me too- you might wanna check 'em out. Good Luck

Don't you know any one that shoots one of these??
If you don't know how they operate, get some help.
Banging them with your fist just gives you a busted hand.
As others have said you can't load one round into the chamber
and then close the bolt.
Re the stripper clips, Just set in the slot and push them down
with your thumb till it stops and pull the clip and last 5 round back out.

Another thought on that stupid gun range-
to bad you did not have something like a
50 bmg with a big ass muzzel brake on it.
Show the boys a real single shot-
thou I love single shots as well as semi autos.

boresnake.... next time yer headin to the range, p.m. me a couple days in advance.... we can hit the poco range and I'll have a look at yer sks and give you the run down. I hate to see a fellow gunnutter strugglin ;) :D and I'll bring my tricked up rinco m14's , also have a new D model sks i need to test fire.

Who cares how many shots? My range lets you shoot as many as you want. What difference could that possibly make? Sorry to hijack.

Up near Borden you should just buy a home with some property and build your own range. There's lots of property there with no restrictions.

But FTLOG buy enough property that your neighbours won't go nuts.
