Help my sks stopped firing

Just got my new sks, took it to the range to check it out.

After about 60 rounds I had a few rounds not fire, trigger felt as if I had pulled it. I then would pull the slide back to eject the shell and as soon as I start to pull the slide back the round would fire.:eek:

After a few more rounds fired, now the trigger would feel as if it had been pulled everytime and as soon as I start to pull the slide back to eject the live shell it would fire, it did this about five times in a row, so I stopped and put the gun away.

I am now stripping it down again and cleaning it. Yes I cleaned the gun very good before I took it to the range.

Has anyone had this happen to them and what was the probelm, is something wrong with the firing pin or trigger?

I need to get this corrected as it is pretty dangerous with this happening.

Wow thats crazy never heard of that before. Sounds like there is a problem in the trigger group try taking the trigger group out and clean all the Cosmoline out se if that works if not return the rifle for a new one . i just bought a TT-33 that would slam fire and then go full auto lol you never know with surplus guns.
 
Maybe the firing pin is a bit sticky? It may be a good idea to be safe and clean out the firing pin. It should move freely and slap back and forth when shaking the bolt. Thats a strange problem though never heard of that one before.
 
YOu may be right with the trigger being the problem. I got home and would pull the slide and then set it as if I had racked in a shell. The trigger was depressed, it was not set to fire. So it seems the trigger is not setting. But as soon as I pull the slide back the trigger sets and fires.

Going to pull out the trigger and give it a good cleaning, will do the firing pin as well.

Still interested to hear if anyone has had this happen and what they did to correct it.

This is a new one to me. I doubt it's a firing pin issue. I would take the gun back to the dealer for an exchange. If you really want to DIY, look to the trigger group.
 
Just courious what ammo you were using. Not saying this is the final answer to your dilema, just trying to get all the details. Did you strip , clean , and reassemble the bolt at all.
 
heavy cosmoline

you need to strip it down , and make sure you have cleared all the cosmoline from the firepin channel. and make sure the firing pin moves freely. especially if its a russian with a spring on the pin
 
I was using chek ammo. I did take the bolt out into the three pieces. Never took apart the firing pin, it moved freely.

I just clean and soaked the trigger assembly, cleaned the firing pin.
Seems okay now when dry firing.

I should mention I had on it a picnanny raised rail, it had to be filed a bit to allow the bolt to move freely thought it. It was still sticking in the begining when I was shooting, I filed it a little more and it worked fine. Just wondering if it was slightly still rubbing but not enought to hold the bolt back, could that be the problem??

I will check that out. I am pretty sure it is something to do with the trigger assembly as it was not setting until you opened the bolt, which was a little disturbing.

Don't really want to return the gun it was the only laminated one and it is from 1954 Izehvek. Stock is original not ###X

It sounds like your "Safety sear" is catching but not your "Sear". Make sure that your sear is free to move!

Ahhh!
It might be closed but not all the way.

See that bar sticking up to the right. If it doesn't get pushed down all the way it will feel like the hammer droped but it won't actually.
Now if the rear cover is to tight of a fit. After a certain amount of rounds the metal will start to heat up and could cause the bolt not to close properly for the hammer to engauge the firing pin.
Please post some pic's of your trigger group so we can see the top of the hammer and release bar. Also with the rifle assembled with this rear cover installed.
 
I put the old cover back on and it still does it. Basically the trigger is not getting set but the hammer is. So when I try to open the bolt it disengages the hammer. So it has to do with when I rack a round in and the trigger is not set. So what ever sets the trigger is the problem. So what do I need to do to get the trigger to set???

Cheap fix. Replace the Sear Disconnect bar. Ask John @ Marstar for one or SkSMan dot com for one.
I can clearly tell in this pic that it has be pulled but the hammer hasn't dropped.

To prove it to you try doing this.
1) Grab a butter knife or a ruler and hold the trigger group facing you so you can see the piolit hole. Like this;

2) With the butter knife or ruler press dow on the sear connect rod and line it up with the sear.
3) Gently squize the trigger tell the trigger bar touches the sear. Then remove the preasure from the sear disconnet bar.
4) Now complete pulling the trigger.

You will notice a click but the hammer will not have fully extended but moved a bit. This is a saftey feature with the SkS rifle that allows it not to fire out of battery. Also before you try this make sure to press down on the hammer so that it fully reset's. Other wise your thumb could be in a little pain. Know if this is to complex or you just don't feel safe touching it. I would take it back to the store were you baught it from and ask for an exchange.

Personally I would take the rifle back and get a replacement.You shouldn't have to be messing around with the trigger group in a rifle you just bought..cheers

Which one in the picture is the sear disconnect bar? #6 0r #9?

I may get the wolf spring kit for it and have a gunsmith here in Mission do it for me, and polish out the sear at the same time.
