Hey guys,

I recently purchased a Savage Model 25 Varminter in .204 with the thumbhole laminate stock. Over-all I am very, very impressed with this rifle except for one or two little issues. I'm just wondering if there's any mods I can do to lighten it (only adjustable down to 2.5 pounds) and I'd like to bring that down by at least a pound to make those longer shots easier. I've heard about people trimming the trigger spring half a coil at a time until they see results but I'm obviously skeptical. I've also heard of polishing the sear etc. but that sounds like a hassle and inconsistent. When I pull the trigger I also notice a little bit of spring creaking and although it's not a huge issue I'd prefer it wasn't there.

Cheers,

J

P.S. If this is in the wrong place I apologize please move!

Thanks homer76! This trigger is heavier than the others which go down to 1.5 lbs. I also looked into a RifleBasix, they list the SAV-1 for most savage centrefires.. but the SAV-RAT is apparently the only model they have for the model 25, which is the same model for the savage rimfires..strange.

Talk to Jerry who runs Mystic Precision. If he doesn't know the answer to a Savage related question it's not worth knowing. That's pretty weird about the Rifle Basix triggers.

I cut the spring on one of my Accutriggers and took it down about 1 pound and it works fine. The creaking you speak of could be the spring in the accutrigger blade, i get that in all of mine.

So I cut it down one full coil then used another half to bend it into place. Does that sound right? Cause it works pretty damn nice! Probably lowered by a pound.

I just did this on my accu for my 17. I brought it down to 2 pounds for now, until I can shoot it and see how I like it. I also polished the trigger/sear at the same time. That helped with the over all smoothness of the trigger pull and took out abit of the creep. One more little thing that helped, was I made alittle shim for the main pin of the trigger so that it took out most of the side to side play in the trigger.

I know the accu-triggers are different between the rimfire and centerfire, but theres a good write up about it in the rimfirecentral forums

It seems to be pretty nice. Makes no noise and had zero creep. I am gonna do the same with mine. Shoot it a bunch before cutting it anymore. At least now I know what I'm doing. Was pretty nervous a couple times.
