Hey guys not sure if this is the correct place to ask this but I am seeking info
on Museums in Canada which put on demonstrations.
I have heard tell of a Museum in Manitoba where they shot full auto Thompsons and was wondering if any local
Manitoba guys can tell me which museum it was and any other info they might have
Really looking for info on any Museum in Canada which demonstrates the firearms they have.
Any and all help is much appreciated

"...which demonstrates the firearms..." Fort York, Fort Henry and most of the other 1812 era British forts. Other museums have to deal with the FA too. And none of 'em have the people or budgets for that. You can't shoot FA just anywhere either.
Never heard of any museum anywhere in Canada doing it.

Full-auto in MB is probably either the RCA museum or the museum operated by Wolverine Supplies I think its Currahee Military museum.

Hopefully this helps

Insurance is way to high to put non deactivated firearms on display so many of them have the really rare ones locked in the basement. It comes down to insurance most of the time.

I don't think any of them will take them out and shoot them they have lent them out for filming like they did for the movie Passiondale. The military came in and blew up the field with artillery for the last shot (it ate up the whole film budget the action scenes) They had to go find them and they went to museums which dug them out of the safe since they don't put them on display due to insurance being void if they do.

I was offered to shoot a Vicks machine gun before it was deactivated for a museum. I said no thanks I've shot one before the law changed and if I shoot full auto again I would be tempted to make one so I won't shoot it again until the law changes.

I've been asked to look at boxes of parts for certain museums since they had no idea what they had just lots of parts and they knew they had some full autos around they just didn't know were or what happened to them and wanted to find them all so they were properly locked up. So I got to go through tons of boxes and put firearms back together was fun.

As stated, I think it would have to be either the Artillery Museum at CFB Shilo or Wolverine's collection. (I gotta make it over there one of these days) There's one out East somewhere that did an antique Gatling gun demonstration as well, I can't recall exactly where that was though.

Ft Rodd Hill is under the authority of Parks Canada. (AFAIK)
It's entirely plausible however that the RCA museum could fire a FA Thompson if the range (on DND property) was still templated for .45 cal

It is not the RCA museum. I am associated with that museum, and there has been no firing of the firearms there.

I do know of the museum of which the original poster is asking, however they no longer make the F/As available to the general public due to security concerns.

The RCA museum won't even take firearms on loan or accept donations. Tried to give them a better example of a piece in their display and loan them another they don't have. They have to own it to display it.

I don't think so. The Bren in question has been converted to fire ONLY blanks. I talked to the guy who did the conversion.
So is this an accepted and legal practice to "dewat" a full auto then? I've heard of this a few times and I've always been of the opinion that blanks are simply cartridges without a bullet in them, thus EVERYTHING on the gun is still live and a barrel change away from being a full auto again. Something doesn't smell right.

Sorry for the hijack.
