Very nice. And heavy. I had one in 270 win.
Had nice irons on it too.

My brother had the same rifle in 7rm, and I had a A1 laminate in 17 Remington (but neither of ours had sights). I like those old laminates.

If i read this correctly it's an L579 made in 1992.
And if this is true how does this rifle compare to the new Sakos quality wise?
The bolt on this rifle is very smooth and the trigger very light and crisp.

L579 were short action only. It would be a L691.

The AV was available in the deluxe "finnbear" configuration. Think of the AV as though it were a Remington Mod 700 and how many different iterations of the 700 there are. The AV was the same.

I just got ring mounts for my new Sako 85 Bavarian Carbine. I use Leupold ring mounts on my Sako rifles. Low, medium, high and super high available in matte or gloss except low which are gloss only. Check Amazon.ca. I don't think I got hosed too bad.

These are Leupold medium height matte ring mounts.

Too bad they didnt stick with one action like the 700... So many different models and practically nothing interchangeable...

will those ring mounts fit on the AV?
I noticed that the dovetails on the AV are shaped like a wedge, just for clarification the rifle came with bases and rings but the rings are kind of high for my liking.
Are the dovetails on the 85s wedge like too?

The Leupold ring mounts for Sako rifles fit either the AV or 85 which have angled dovetails. Sounds like you have the Sako Optilock bases and rings. Leupold ring mounts have always worked fine for me. Lighter too.
