Hi Guys,

Reading about some of your posts/experiences got me interested in Muzzle loaders, so I went out and picked up a brand new Remington 700ML. Got a very good deal on it.

Its in .50 cal, with black synthetic stock. Got some questions! Would you buy a #209 Conversion kit for it so you could use shotgun primers? What kit is best and where can I buy one? I've heard mixed reviews about the Remington factory conversion...I'm assuming there are other kits out there?

What accessories would you recommend in terms of bullet starters, capper/de-capper, picks, bullets, patches, etc... As I said, I'm a newbie, so muzzle loading is like a foreign language to me! :) Looked at all the big mail order catalogs...the amount of stuff available is a little overwhelming!

I'll probably be sticking with either Pyrodex pellets or Hogdon 777 powder/pellets for propellents. Any help, advice or comments would be appreciated! I'm here to learn! :)

You got a good idea what you need already, I spent 20+ years traditional blackpowder and have been using a TC Encore exclusivly for the past 3. My set up is:
-777 pellets
-209 primers
-Hornady SST's
-2 speed loaders
-and a hockey sock full of cleaning and care supplies.

If you change to 209 primers, you'll get faster, hotter more consistant ignition. 777 Pellets don't foul hardley as much as BP and are very good for hunting.

I love the sport, I've taken a moose and an elk this fall already with mine. Good luck and have fun........there is somewhat of a learning curve to muzzleloading, read what you can and look through CGN, there's a lot of good guys here with lot's of good advice
