Hey all, I just got back with my newest addition to my ever growing collection, a colt M1911 government model. I was just hoping that someone would be able to help me out with identifying what it was, as in military or civilian. The ser # on it is c 93xx. The slide has all the patent info on the left side as well as colts mfg info for hartford ct. I would be grateful for any help thanks.

Well your pics are not working, but here goes from what you said.

You have a Commerical version of the origional 1911, 1914 being the year of manufacturer, If it is origional the finish should be a deep blue mirror finish. This falls into the canadin contract serial number range, 5000 pistols of the 1914 produciton went to the canadian government although many are not c broad arrow marked.

I didnt find a broad arrow anywhere on mine until i had it for 3 years, so look at the base of the mags for a board arrow, a good indicator it was a cdn contract gun but by no means the smoking gun.

The grips should be walnut duoble diamond, i cna send pics of 2 of mine if needed to compare. The patent informantion should be the second variation of them with the oldest date being Apr. 20 1887

and the newest being AUG 19. 1913

hope that helps,

regards,
gavin

Great old guns and shoot a bit low with the origonal sights.
