Ned Schwing authored a good book entitled "Browning Superposed: John M. Browning's Last Legacy". If you can't borrow it from a local library, you might consider acquiring a copy.
Thanks ! Receiver is blued , barrels are full over modified and 31-3/4 inches total length--- does that make it 29" barrels? The step at the forward end of the chambers is 3-1/8" in from the end---is this a standard dimension for chambers for 2-3/4" cartridges? The ventilated rib is 5/8" wide and has two ivory beads; a small one ( 1/16" dia.) @ 14" from the breech, and the larger one (1/8" dia.) @ 3/8" from the muzzle. The buttstock has what I believe is called a raised comb. These features lead me to believe that this is a Broadway Trap model.
Sounds right. If you're measuring the barrels from the breech to the muzzle, those are 30" barrels - trap dimensions. The chambers are, indeed, 2 3/4".
I measured the total barrel length with the barrels removed from the receiver, so the 31-3/4" length includes the cartridge chamber. As you say this makes it 30" barrels, I assume that trap dimensions measure from the muzzle to a point which includes the forward one inch of the cartridge?
