Help on pricing?

A friend has a pre-war (1935 I think) Walther PPK in 7.65 with heavy engraving and several gold inlays. I fired it yesterday and it shoots better than my .22 target pistol -- it feels like perfection in the hand. My friend's health is not good and he is considering selling but has no idea what the gun is worth. I don't either but, if I had a 12(6) PAL, this gun would not be offered for sale.

Sorry, I have no pictures. Anyone have any useful information I can pass on?

If it's really pre 1946 then it can be bought by a 12(6) holder and handed down or across to a family member.
I don't know about the engraving as that means nothing to me.
What condition is it in?
$300-$400 is what I'd guess without pics.

The gun is in outstanding condition, looks like a museum piece, shoots as accurately as a target pistol, and has a trigger pull that was a revelation to me. (I now know what people want in their triggers -- this gun blows away all sixteen of mine, even the S&W revolvers.) The gold inlays must be worth several hundred by themselves, the engraving as well although it is too heavily Germanic for my taste.

I don't understand what you mean about pre-1946 (it is definitely pre-WWII manufacture, I've just forgotten the exact year). How is this different from later examples?

Something like this PPK surely must have some kind of providence. There would've been a reason for the engraving & inlay, etc. The value of the gun may be one thing but to have it with some proof of providence might just boost the value. Likely it was made for some dignitary or high ranking military person.
