So I got a Mossberg 500 Tactical in the mail, now I am looking for some shells just for messing around.

Looking for some buckshot, just for fun. I see boxes at CT that say BB, but I'm sure thats not buckshot. I should be looking or "OO"?

Now for some slugs, should I be looking for rifled slugs? Will hollow point shoot okay in my Mossberg?

All of these are for fun, no hunting.

Thanks for the info.

Also, depending on where you are going some range only allow slug and some may allow you to shot buck or bird shot on the pattern board besides doing trap or skeet.

There really isn't any "cheap" Slugs or Buckshot. For fun, find yourself some # 7 1/2's or 8's and blast away. Or get case lots of S&B Slugs from Ryan at SFRC, sponser at the top, and I hear he might have some Buckshot coming as well!

Any non-Saboted slug will work in a smooth bore shotgun, sabots will go through fine as well, just won't be very accurate......and accuracy out of a shotgun is used loosely!

Thanks guys, i realize none of this is ever cheap! But It's good to know that I can shoot what ever slugs through the old smoothbore.

The 15 rd. value packs of winchester 2 3/4" at CT are about the best deal. Unless I'm missing something, the Mossberg 500 tactical with ATI AR stock is not goig to be "aimable" without some aftermarket sights or red dot. I put one of their AR stocks on my Maverick 88 and it brought the cheekweld up so high that the bead was useless. Also, sabots can be fired through a smoothbore yes, but the rear-heavy rifle bullets will tumble in the air due to a lack of spin stabilization. They are a waste of time and money in a smoothbore. My maverick liked the cheap Winchester universal 100rd cases, I buy them from walmart for less than CT sells them for.

Yeah it's going to get a red dot, folding stock setup here soon. Not sure if the ATI top folder will clear the rail and red dot I got though. we'll see.

4 fun you can't go wrond with the ct or chinMart ammo
they have different 100 round pack from time to time ranging from 4 - 7 1/2 shoot

I've got one of these: http://www.opticsplanet.net/bushnell-trophy-1x32-riflescope-730132p.html on one of my shotguns and love it.

Just a thought if you are in the market for a red dot type optic.

On the shell front, I'd do as others suggested. Get the cheap stuff to play with. 7 1/2 at CT is lots of fun and not hard on the wallet.

I buy the cheap $27.99 100 rounds of 12g. #4 shot
You will want rifled slugs.
00 buck is the more popular of buckshot
BB steel shot has some good penetration in the high velocity.
