Help pick my replacement: GSG-15 vs Anschutz RX22

Msr rx22, gsg 15 and issc are essentially all the same rifle. This design will always be finicky at best because of the inherent design which wasn't thought out well and needs to be clean to work reliably. Therefore if I were to buy one again i would buy the one with the best support (gsg 15) As it seems to have the best warranty. Otherwise I would look to other more robust designs like the 10/22, g36, stg44 or if you have the cash a volquartsen.

Excellent advice thank you for the reply!

The StG 44 is an excellent carbine. IMHO much better than the GSG15 or the MSR RX22. I've had one for over a year and it's been absolutely reliable. I've been shooting various types of 22LR ammo without any hiccup. It's very accurate with iron sights. A riflescope can also be mounted without any problem if one wishes so. It's very easy to disassemble and clean. The 25rds mags are easily available (e.g. Blue Line Solutions). However, it's a bit heavier than the polymer ones.
The StG 44 could be found on sale, eg. at Durham Outdoors.

Awesome I was also considering it but was told to go otherwise. GLAD TO HEAR SOME POSITIVES about it.

Thank you for replying.

I'm waiting on a house to sell the I'm buying a CZ euro lux II 22lr.... I have looked around and that looks to be just about one of the nicest. I already have an abundance of guns that are fun. I'm working on a generational collection now. I'll be able to hand down a CZ, the GSG I'm not sure and the Norinco bolt action jw25 I have now will definitely not last to be handed down.

I still vote GSG15.... The StG 44 looks cool too just long term may not have as many options for "plug ins" that the GSG15 has with all of its rails etc..

Totally agreed. the design is the key issue for the msr 22. It just s@#$%. It needs an overhaul.

Wow that CZ does look good! Perhaps a 22 WMR version?

Yeah it's between the gsg-15 & STG44 now.

I'm terrified of issues with the Anschutz.

I spent forever researching the GSG and ISSC but couldn't take the plunge. The shrouded pencil barrel put me off in the end as well as some of the negative reviews. For that sort of money I decided (I think...) to put a bit more in the pot and go for a CZ 512, probably the Tactical version. I just feel I will be better off in the long run with proven CZ quality.
It doesn't look as nice, especially the curly mag but I assume standard 10 round CZ mags will also fit, and I will have to fork out a bit more for a lower rail. I am confident it will be a better shooter though.

I was leaning towards your direction as well however some shooters are not confident in that platform as well, which is a surprise considering it's a CZ.

I'm considering abandoning the 22lr altogether and picking up a non restricted 223/5.56

Hmmm...sounds like I have to continue my research, I'm not paying that much if it's not all that!
If you find a cheap/cheap to feed non-restricted 22LR alternative, let me know...

I've ordered a 223/5.56 rifle instead.

I kinda want a Walther H&K G36 22lr, but it's expensive so I gotta save. I cannot find one used, which makes sense as there have been no issues reported that I can see. Alas the price is too much for me.

I picked up a Remmington 597 Heavy Barrel instead (yesterday). Terrible trigger, hopefully it will loosen up but still got 4 out of 5 through the same hole at 25 yards with CCI Standard Velocity so I will be stocking up on those. Didn't like Federal and some others I tried but no regrets so far.
I discovered the Archangel AR stock conversion earlier, might try that one day if I want a tactical look for a good shooting little rifle. GSG alternative solved!

I just purchased a GSG 15. After 1K rounds, it has settled in to being 100% reliable. I had a few FTF initially. The mags are ####ty... they're fussy about how you load them. You have to get the rounds seated perfect, which often requires a tap on the back of the mag. Plastic mags suck. These seem to be too tight in the throat above the follower, but that improves with break-in wear. Otherwise, no issues. I like the gun, I like the ergonomics. The trigger is decent enough and it's plenty accurate to 50 yds. The gun likes HV 22 ammo, and I've had the best luck with zero failures using Federal bulk pack HPs. There's been some social media #####ing about cleaning, but I don't agree. I've heard complaining because it takes about 1 min to remove 2 bolts to remove the lower. Really?? I clean my guns after every use, and for those that don't, I don't know why you complain about semi autos not functioning reliably. I've heard this gun needs cleaning after 200 rnds or it's unreliable. I've not experienced this issue. I put 500 rnds thru mine at the range a couple days ago with zero failures. I'll be using my GSG 15 in an upcoming indoor 2 gun match this weekend, and I'm totally confident it's going to go pop every time I pull the trigger.

Had another range session yesterday with my Anschutz MSR. Once again it performed faultlessly and shot 250 rounds with zero FTF or FTE. Deliberately not cleaning it to see how many rounds before it starts to ‘gum up’. Also put 200 rounds of standard velocity through my Dlask DAR, also no problems.!!

The issue with the two hex head Allen screws on the GSG15 design that I do not like is the ability to strip these screw heads overtime or with some less than perfect takedowns. It's not about the speed it's the process of stabilizing the rifle to use two Allen keys to take down the rifle and potential for the keys to slip and wear on the screw head. I have taken my rifle down twice and I don't see being able to do it again and again for years without stripping the screws.

Quick update: shot my GSG 15 today in an indoor 2 gun match. Zero issues. Zero failures. None. The mags are fussy about how you load them, but no big deal. I have no regrets in the purchase of this rifle

Glad to hear some love for this rifle! I also love the way this gun functions. Mine is an ISSC MK22, but same same. Maybe Getting down to tbe firing pin to clean isn’t important, but I do it regularly. In this process an issue has come up with the bolt carrier. It’s held together with 5 screws & despite my best efforts 2 of the 5 holes these screws go through are now stripped. It fits together very tightly, so there are still no functionality issues, but now I’m much less interested in getting down to that firing pin. Am I cleaning too deeply? I’ve never been accused of that by anyone...

I hear ya, but I like to put them away clean. When I started out shooting, I was shooting a nice sks (for an sks) with filthy dirty surplus, and it was practically a religious ceremony to get the thing back to shiny so I could put it away & not worry about it rusting or whatever.... old habits...
ISSC said they would send replacement parts for free. That was in August, but now I get no reply... oh well, it still works perfectly.
