help please 858 case stuck

The options are becoming limited. You removing the rear of the case has made fixing this more difficult and more expensive.

You do have one cheaper option which has worked for me on cases that have separated...but your gunsmithing skills seem limited...

You must plug the mouth of the case with a very tight patch... then clean the inside of the case well and lightly sand the inside surface preparing it to adhere well with epoxy. You must do this with a very tight patch plugging the mouth of the case...

Once it is very clean and roughed up fill the inside of the case with 24 hour epoxy... make sure the epoxy stays inside the case and none outside anywhere. You must do this with a very tight patch plugging the mouth of the case...

After the epoxy has cured for 24 hours, use a steel rod that fits the bore closely and has flat ends, wrap some tape around the steel rod so when it flexes the bore is protected... enough tape every 4 inches or so, so the rod does not wobble around much... make the rod so only about 4 inches protrude from the muzzle when it is tight against the case....

Holding the barrelled action securely in a vise and using a heavy hammer drive the plugged case out.

That is what I have done in the past... this may work but if the rear part of the case that is missing was broken off by trying to drive the case out, I doubt it will work... if the rear of the case is missing because you kept prying and working at it with pliers, etc. then it may work.

Good luck... and no I am not interested in trying to fix it. Sorry.

But I am interested in fixing it..Get ahold of Grizzaxemann in here as he had the same problem with a sks..case stuck in chamber that wouldnt come out. I ran a tap in the case and drove it out with no damage to any thing cept the case it self...Its a one shot call that has to be perfectly aligned..I did it once I can do it again...PM sent...I am sure that Grizz will vouch for me..

HHHHUUUMMMM if there really are some gunsmiths here they must be all drunk or on dope right now. Seams we all fell asleap on this one. When I used to operate a proof house for Remington I was able to buy bolts and barrelled action bodys. I used to buy only #3 bolt bodies “the tightest ones”. For all of the common cartridges I user to buy pull trough chamber reamers to set the headspace. Didn’t have to pull the barrel that way. Seams to me I bought em from Pacific Tool and gauge. Have em send you a reamer and cut the case out. Then advertise the reamer here for half price. Prolly only cost you $50 or $60 bux in the end. Rod

If it's steel rimmed corrosive (brass you have to be more carefull) Use a thread tipped screw driver or a drill with long bit, drill the primer out (as long as you know it really and truly isn't live), then thread a very heavy screw into it, grip with vice grips, hammer out. Worked for me.

I've never tried this but if you want a way to plug the case so you can tap it out from the muzzle end you can try a concrete bolt that expands as you tighten the nut. Most hardware places have them and you can roughen up the sleeve so it bites into the case a little better.

If you want to go a step further you can buy one of those cans of compressed air for cleaning computers and turn the can upside down and spray the inside of the case. That will drop the case temp pretty quick so it will shrink slightly and might help loosen the case a little.

I've never tried this myself but it's an idea.

Likely cause is that although you cleaned with Windex, that only addresses half the problem. The water based solution removes the corrosive salts, but also strips away the very thin coat of material protecting your bore (yes, it is corrosion). After cleaning out the salts it is a real good idea to run through a lightly oiled patch followed by several dry ones. Minimal oil coat protects the metal surface from oxidation (RUST!).
