OK, so I got these three guns clearing an estate. I called the CFC to transfer, and they cant tell what they are with the info I gave them, so no transfer. Can you guys help me out with the models/calibers please? The only one I'm even remotely familiar with is the ross rifle.

Heres some pics:

The Top one is marked "Danzig" and "J.G. Mod. 71/84
The middle one is marked (What looks like) "KKESCIA" and 1917

And while we are at it, any idea of values? I mean "will sell at that price" values.

Thanks alot!

Ryan

the first is Mauser m71/84 rifle

the second one is a Mannlicher Carcano CARBINE M1891 similar to the one that shot JFK
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carcano

the third looks like a sporterized ROSS

though the stock doesn't look as crude as you would expect on a sporter it might be another version
as for worth ...just take a look on the links do a few searches on google and make your own guess my guess 3 to 5 hundred for each maybe more I am not an appaiser just guessing

A shame about the Ross. If bubba hadn't gotten to it, would have been worth good money, Now just a parts gun.
You do have the bolts for the Carcano and the Ross, I hope?

The 71-84 is missing the mid barrel band. I would agree about the price on the mauser.

LOL...yes, I have the bolts.

The carbine is turning out to be interesting....I found this: Moschetto per Cavalleria
A half-stocked cavalry carbine, with the unmistakable triangular folding bayonet; it is fixed to a permanent muzzle mounting, but hinges back under the stock, into a slot there. Not infrequently the bayonet is missing. Exists as M91, M38, M 38 S, M91/38. One manufacturer, FNA Brescia **What this gun is***, continued its previous M91 pattern throughout the Second World War and never made a M91/38 with fixed sights. Please note that the round barrel base (instead of the old half-octagonal configuration with five facets on the upper side and a round base) was already introduced way before 1938 for the last M91 carbines and is not a sign for a M91/38 model in and by itself.

The hunt continues.....

From the pics, it appears you need to find an upper barrel band for the Model 71/84? ... ;)

They were serial numbered matched to the rifle and it drastically alters value to a collector, but a shooter won't care? Perhaps it's still laying around in the estate attic someplace?

Badger

Not likely. From what I can see, everything else matches too......:(

That's too bad..... :(

They were matched even right down to the small band screws....

There's a few collectors in the U.S. who have parts with last digits for many old Mausers. Send me the serial number by PM and I'll see if I can locate an upper band for you, that would have the correct last two digits of this rifle.

Badger

odd that wartime ammunition should be stored in the butt-trap..... wish the tale of that one could come through, but I guess it's likely too late..

Yes he is....google is Clavens friend to, ya know...

Actually, it's not Google - it's the whole bookshelf full of things with "Collector Grade Publications" and "For collectors Only" written on them...
