Help please. I am totally lost. How to choose a affordable decent 1911

My vote would be for an Armco norc given your price range as well. With Norcs and the base USGI Springfield you are comparing 1911A1s. Kimber et al, you're really looking at a different gun - guns that look like 1911A1s, but are really not. My norc looks as good as any 1911A1 or springfield G1 - its not as fancy as the Kimbers, STI etc, but I didn't pay for the cosmetics either.

Another recommendation for a Norinco from Armco. For under $500, you really can't go wrong. And the gun comes with a 1-year warranty from Armco and it has already been given a once-over by a very competent pistolsmith before it ships. My new Norinco Commander should be here Monday, I'll let you know what I think of if once I get a chance to shoot it Monday night.

well this is what I would do....

Wait and save your cash...buy a good Kimber or Springfield Loaded Operator

buy once and never second guess yourself

I had a Norinco that I put 1500 in to parts shot great...I had a turn of bad luck and sold it...for 550......Now I shoot a HK USP and love it

the new HK's will have a better grip and slightly lower bore axis. It runs and runs. The sights look to be lower profile on the new ones.

Which Gun!?

I have or have had every gun on your list. If you buy a 1911, you will for ever more be ordering parts, filing this, honing that, thats all part of the fun of shooting a 1911! not to mention the oil stains. 1911's are like the old 350 engine, you just can't leave them alone. If your not in to all that, and you wan't to fire 45. Try out the Sprinfield Armoury XD-45, shoots great right out of the box, never fails to fire, and looks great, and won't break the bank, but what's the fun in that!;)

I would say take a look at other options in the Springfield line. Think about what it is you want from the pistol. Are you going to do high-speed competition? Plinking? target shooting? tinkering? A lot of this depends upon what you are intending to do with the pistol.

If you intend to tinker, a Norinco is a cheaper way to make errors. If you want to compete, a Springfield "Full Size" or Mil-Spec" is a good place to start. If you want a "Tactical" or "Fighting" gun look at the "Professional" or "TRP". Also, I am trying to work within your selections here. If you do have the chance, sheck out Colt, Kimber and S&W as well. Some people are more comfortable with different pistols.

Reloading is alright when dealing with most of these guns, just be sure to keep the rounds in spec. for the gun and pay attention when you reload.

As for the notion that you are forever tinkering and mucking about with 1911's, I have heard the opposite from 1911 owners with some rounds down the pipe. Sure you can tinker if you want, but I just got a good pistol (TRP Operator Gen I), set it up how I liked it and have left it alone since. A good 1911 is like a Timex. :)

"If you want the gun to look good, avoid the Norincos. They are not pretty.

If you don't want to customize the gun, Norincos are not your type, either."

I don't know about you, but I think this gun is pretty nice-looking (and I have some pretty expensive guns, too :) ) This is a stock but smoothed 1911A1-C - I sell these for $480. I also sell Paras and STI's if your budget can take it. Are they worth the money? Absolutely, but in the under $600 price range, nothing touches a tuned Norinco :)

An ARMco/Agilent-tuned Nork, with all Wilson internals. Gun shoots fantastic! I may change the sights, but I'm shooting well with them.

I just bought a norinco from Gunnar (7x61 ) since i heard a lot of good stuff about them.
I can give you a range report next week :)

SpringFIELD 1911A1 GI stainless $750
Tangfolio 1911 $599?
Norinco 1911A1 $325
Norinco NP-30 $369
none of the above

get a Taurus PT1911. Blued version has been out (in US) for while now...I've read dozens of range reports/reviews of the gun by people who actually own them and I haven't read about any real complaints (OK some people decided to change the grips ). Stainless version should be out shortly. That's what's waiting for myself .

Oh and Taurus costumer service is non an issue since it’s a 1911.... ;)

btw they will be around $750 SS, $725 blue in Canada ...and PT1911 is not a bare bone gun like the 1911's you listed.
