Its a sickness. I am never satisfied with my Remington 700. So, my newest mod is a PTG oversized fluted bolt with an AR type extractor. I removed my firing pin and spring and assembly. Its a PGW (b4 they were famous) titanium pin and spring. I took the old bolt and new one to Jeff at Grizzly and he removed the bolt handle from the old bolt, welded it to the PTG one and headspaced it.

When I went to put the firing pin assembly back in, the pin was hanging up somewhere inside the bolt. A little sharpie and some fine grinding and it fit.

So I took it out the other day and it went "click" when it should have gone bang. The was no strike mark at all on the primer.

I manually turned the bolt to expose the firing pin and measured the protrusion at 0.063"

WFT???

I then measured the difference between the non business end of the firing pin and the end of the bolt shroud. Cocked and uncocked removed from the rifle .226"
Once inserted into the rifle the difference was .133". This would indicate that something is preventing it from travelling its full length.

I cannot find anything obvious. Ideas & words of wisdom please.

Much thanks

Bush

Well don't start grinding anything... (home gunsmithing 101)

Maybe take the rifle and your old bolt to a gunsmith?

Problem found. The bolt handle was re welded a bit out of place. Needs to come off and come counter clockwise a few 1/8s. Jeff at Grizzly is not doing any smithing right now as he is concentrating on brake production.

It is my understanding that Al Simmons in Hamilton has a new smith. Can anyone vouch for him?

Thanks
