Help pricing Simpson Suhl 12/70 side by side

You can list it for what ever price you think it is worth that does not mean it will sell for your asking price many rifles and shotguns on EE with the owners asking price being off the mark . To them that is what it is worth it’s not a selling price it’s there price

Yes my thinking, this looks way better than TradeeX, thought I have bought stuff from Anthony that was as new, at a hell of a good price.
I was going to suggest 600.oo at the gun show, but to the right guy , it would be more ,As Gunsaholic posted.
Guy's, I bought this gun from the OP 2 months ago. The gun is in far better condition than any Simson or Merkel that Tradeex has listed now at $800.00 and this is an ejector gun, not extractor like the ones on Tradeex. The gun performs flawlessly. Not a crack or hardly a mark in the stock. Great bores and tight action. The only flaw is the barrels have some bluing loss which I can remedy very easily if I decide too. Would I do it again---in a heartbeat! It would be a long time to find a gun of the same quality and condition for the price.

As mentioned earlier, I bought this gun last summer from the OP. Just thought I'd show what it looks like now. I refinished the barrels myself so for total investment in it, one would have to look for some time for comparable quality for the price. It is a model 70E.
Some before and after pics.

Simpson was a Jewish family of gunmakers that made some pretty extraordinary guns before the war....on par with the best of Sauer at the time. But Jews and Nazis weren’t a good mix and the outcome there was not far from what one might imagine. After the war it was just a brand name used by people who had confiscated its use. Whatever entity went bankrupt in 2002 it was simply the heir of Nazi, communist and socialist traditions (read theft) not the fine craftsmanship of the original Simpson family.
When they gave up control of the company in 1934 the name changed to BSW and some very nice guns were produced till the end of the war.I bought a 1935 sxs from tradex with BSW on it.Very well made and robust lockup.

Whether run by the Nazis or the Simpson family, if it's before WWII, it stands a chance of being very high quality. Things changed once the commies took over after the war and while there are were still "good" guns made, it really was and is a "good gun for the money" kind of equation. Nothing after the Communists took over even begins to compare to the better quality from Simpson and Sauer. I have a sidelock Sauer from 1895 that is shockingly well made and I paid $450 for it.

I've got both pre war and post war commie Simsons and they are all excellent, but I'd have to say the pre war guns feel a bit nimbler, perhaps lighter. I should compare them side by side again. Personally I think many of the East German shotguns were grossly underrated.

Anyway.......very nice gun you have there.
