help reloading 3030 win

For one you have the wrong bullets sp (pointy nose) can not be used in 30-30. For 2, 30-30 needs large rifle primers. You should buy a reloading manual before you buy a press and powder. Read the manual at least once then ask questions.
 
You need flat point or at least round nose bullets for 30-30. I assume you have a tubular mag ie winchester 94 or Marlin 336. If you use pointy bullets the point rests on the primer of the round ahead and could set it off under recoil,making a nasty chain reaction. As for powder there are many, IMR 3031, H335 IMR 4064 to name a few. Every rifle is different and you have to try some test loads to see. Read up a bit and then don't be shy to ask some questions. It is a lot of fun to reload but not a game.
 
"...can not be used in 30-30..." If it's a tube mag. You could use 'em and only put one round in the mag.
180's are a bit heavy for a .30-30 anyway. You can either keep 'em for when you buy a .308 or other .30 cal bolt action or sell or trade 'em for 170 FP's.
As mentioned you need Large Rifle primers. .223 uses small rifle primers. So the LR's are not a waste of space on a shelf. They don't go bad.
 
I like 29.8gn IMR3031, in back of 165gn Hornady SP's. I only load one in the tube, jack it into the chamber, then put one in the tube. YOu only need one round anyway, right?
 
I just loaded up a bunch of 150gr sierra spitzers for my 30-30 . good old savage 340. only issue I had was that I needed a slight crimp other wise they caught the chamber and wouldn't feed .
 
A hunting bullet is designed to expand in a certain velocity range. A 30-30, 308Win and a 300Win Mag can all be bought with 150gr bullets. But the bullets are not the same. The 30-30 bullet will have a thinner jacket. Also a round nose for the magazine.

You can use your pointy bullets. Just single load them. When loading ammo into the magazine, you must make sure the loaded round is not too long, or it won't come out!!!

Maximum length is about 2.55" So you need a vernier, too, so you can measure your loaded rounds.

A ball powder measures very accurately from a powder thrower. For you kind of shooting and loading experience, a ball powder would make life easier. Perfect powders are WW748, H335 and BLC2. Other good powders are 3031, 4895, 4064, varget and RL15.

You need a good loading manual (at least one. Two are better) and you need to read the educational stuff in the book. Several times. It will make the hobby a lot more interesting.

Good books are Speer, Hornady, Lyman and Sierra.
