Looking for advise. I am in need of someone with reloading experience to take a look at the list below and see if I am missing anything. ( apart from bullets and powder primer)
I am reloading for a .300 win mag and .338 win mag.
If I am re using the same brass for each caliber am I required to re-size the entire case?? or can I just re-size the neck? I have read mixed messages online about that. Any feed back would be great.
LOoking forward to your help.
Anyone have any suggestions as to best power choice for each caliber?
.338 win mag - Rugar M77 Mark 2
.300 win mag - SAKO

hand primer ? is that worth the money??

One other thing that you should have is a set of calipers to measure your cases.

I have the Rockchucker press too and really like it, you're making a wise purchase. You can probably live without the hand primer though. I don't have one, so maybe I don't know what I'm missing, but the primer arm on the press works for me.

seating dies? is that what the bullet sits in when it is being fed into the press? I wish I had a book to explain all the parts of this gear - anyone aware of any website that have good info for this sort of thing ?

Yes, the seating die is what is used to seat the bullet. Your die sets will include 2 dies, one for resizing / primer removal, and one for seating your bullets. It looks like you've done your homework from your list, I don't see anything that you're missing, or that your kit won't come with. You should probably pick up a second reloading manual to go with the Speer one that the kit inlcludes.

This might help you a little:

Scott,
A old friend just gave me all his old reloading stuff.....older but it has never been used. The list I have put together above is what I need. I have all the small stuff .....as in lubricant, primers...ect.....as for the resizing die.....I will look into that now !!! thanks again

Sorry, I didn't realize that you already had some of the stuff. 17asleep may have a point about the seating die being missing. Usually the dies come as a set, with one being for resizing and one being for seating, so it's unlikely that if your friend gave you the stuff, he wouldn't have given you the seatig dies. One other thing that might be missing is a deburring tool, used to remove burrs and bevel the inside of the mouth of the case.

First thing I would recommend you buy is a copy of the Lyman reloading manual; every reloader should have one. The step by step section on the reloading procedure is really good; I used it and I have not blown myself up after ~5000 rounds.

As for the neck sizing option, it is up to you. I neck size quite a bit of my brass, but you will need a full size sizing die for after 5-6 relaods when it starts getting a bit tight. You will find that you can go longer if you are shooting a bolt; I do not recommend neck sizing in a semi auto since they are sometimes sensitive to a tight case.

As for what you need, I can list off what I use for rifle cartirdges and figure out what you have and need from there:

- Rockchucker press
- Lee Deluxe die sets (full length sizing die, neck sizing die, seating die, shell holder, and some have a facotry crimping die IIRC)
- Loading tray (s)
- Lee hand primer and primer shell holders(used the Rockchucker for a while and this is WAY better)
- Case trimmer (Lee ones work very well on a budget, but the lathe type ones (mine is Lyman) work very well if you have the cash)
- If you have the cash for the case prep center, they are great, but I just use the hand held items (chamfer tool, deburring tool, primer pocket tool) to do it also
- lube tray and lube if you are not neck sizing
- RCBS Rangemaster digital scale (if you have the cash, the Chargemaster is kick a**, but a beam sacle will work also)
- Buillets
- powder (see manual(s))
- primers (see manual(s))
- Paper and pen to keep track of you load data (I use a binder with pages detailin the info and the accuracy)

Cory,

That info is amazing ....thanks. I have printed it off and will go over it. I will pick up a new speer manual. My friend that gave me all his old stuff had speer #10 with it. I am pretty sure #14 is out now. My brother and I are splitting the cost of all equipment so we want to go top end to start with. LOoking at the RCBS scale/measuring device. Sounds like it is the way to go for speed and accuracy.
Again thanks for the heads up.

you want to KEEP the old 10 manual as well- the new ones have been LAWYERIZED with somewhat smaller POWDER CHARGES on the top end and loads that were perfectly acceptable 10 years ago are now MAXIMUM OR BETTER - as for the hand primer, it's fairly cheap and easy to use-
